While many praise the friendly staff, warm ambiance, and consistently excellent food, particularly in their cozy garden setting, others recount disappointing service and overcooked meals. Some guests express frustration over long waits and missing dishes, suggesting a decline from the restaurant’s previous standards. However, returning patrons appreciate the attentive service, well-crafted menu, and the inn's charm as a relaxing escape. The Red Lion remains a beloved spot for both locals and visitors, though diners may experience varied service levels on different occasions.
I had taken my girls away for the weekend and booked a meal here for our treat. The staff were very friendly but the place was a bit cold. My daughter and I ordered steaks which were a bit over cooked and tiny!! Also they didn’t offer any steak sauce! Or even a bit of garlic butter, In hindsight I should of sent it back and asked for something else. They did check if the food was ok but I had a mouthful and they didn’t wait for an answer.
Great surroundings and amazing food of a very high standard
Excellent welcome, service, ambience, food and drink
Another amazing meal at The Red Lion. Attentive staff, excellent food and drink. The barman greeted us with a friendly smile and was knowledgable about the drinks. We were shown to our table in a corner, which I requested and it’s nice to know they listened. We took our time looking at the menu and the waitress came back a few times as we were caught in conversation which she said was not a problem as we had arrived early. It never felt intrusive like in some restaurants. The food arrived in good time and was to the usual high standards from previous visits. When friend ask me to recommend somewhere to eat, this is one of a few hidden gems I recommend and it always pleases! Keep up the good work!
We have been before and enjoyed our meal, but were disappointed to find that the menu had change little since our last visit and, considering the current trend towards healthy eating, there was a limited choice for vegan/vegetarians. One option isn't enough!
