I stopped by for some tea and cake. The restaurant was very conscious of Covid precautions, with all staff wearing masks and tables being spaced out for social distancing. The checkout staff at the exit were very friendly and helpful. View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Otter Nurseries:
I deliberately arrived at the end of the day to avoid crowds (due to Covid), but all of the tender plants inside and outside had already been covered with fleece by the time I arrived at the restaurant. It was advertised as closing at (I even confirmed with a staff member). All the plant trolleys had also been brought in, making it almost impossible to move around with my own trolley. Not for the first time, there was a very limited selection of foods. Some of the sections were bare. Unfortunately the jacket potatoes were not available and the sandwiches were not covered and curling bread did not look appetising. Very little healthy option in the hot food section. We left to go elsewhere as did another couple.
Consistently excellent food we can't fault it at all and every meal we've ever had there has been tasty and beautifully presented. The cafe area and toilets are spotlessly clean. However I have one criticism: on our most recent visit (Tuesday 20th May 2024), the young woman serving the tills had a casual approach to hygiene. We ordered one soft drink and one coffee and she picked up a glass for the soft drink with her fingers holding the edge of the glass rim, rather than the base of the glass. She then did the same with the coffee cup, rather than use its handle. Given that she's handling money, we were very uncomfortable that she'd put her fingers all over where our mouths were going to go and we had to use wipes at the table to clean the rims of the glass and cup. This young woman needs to be taught to handle only the bases of cups and glasses to avoid contamination and the spreading of germs from her hands after she's been touching money.
Pleasant and helpful staff. Clean facilities. Good value with a wide selection of food and drinks especially locally produced
Popped in for lunch whilst visiting the garden centre. There was a good choice of hot meals and lighter meals. Food was fresh and tasty and even more important it was hot! Service was ok but nothing to get excited about.
First visit Used to using Otters in Ottery St Mary Here is somewhat smaller less choices We both had the Prawn Sandwiches with salad crisps Very thin sliced brown bread tiny prawns which had not been mixed properly with the sauce Very disappointing sandwich Wouldn’t rush back
