This restaurant is a great spot for takeout. The prices are reasonable and the portions are generous. The quality of the food is good, but it would be perfect if they had a wider selection of hot dishes. Overall, I would give it 5 stars. View all feedback.
What Estelle Bergstrom doesn't like about Salon de Sushi:
Staff were excellent and environment is nice. When in Melbourne we normally enjoy some fresh Japanese at Purple Peanuts in the CBD but went to salon de sushi based on the reviews. While the meat curry was good, and the seared scallop nagiri was very...tasty, we felt the seared salmon belly and beef nagiri wasnt up to par and the other dishes including miso soup and poke chirasi bowl were good but not excellent. We absolutely adore this wonderful establishment. The sushi is incredibly fresh and flavorful. The presentation is exquisite with great attention to detail. The cheerful and friendly service left us very impressed.
If I'm craving casual Japanese food, I would definitely come to this restaurant. They offer a variety of options such as miso, sushi plates, poke bowls, donburi, udon, and more. The taste of the food was rated at 3.8 out of 5 and the pricing value was 4 out of 5. I appreciate that they are very veggie and vegan-friendly, as you can customize any dish to your liking. The establishment also has a fun element to it, as they display a wide range of wine, sake, Choya, and Japanese cocktails in a self-serve fridge. You can easily grab any ones you haven't tried before.
A hidden gem! We found salon de sushi while walking on clarendon on a cold winter evening. Having escaped a really loud live band place we chose this empty sushi place for dinner. Staff was very polite and quite happy to see us. It was around closing time but they were happy to let us in. Thanks!! We ordered the below <br/ <br/ Japanese croquette bento with chickpea salad Amazing combination of flavours. The rice was well cooked, croquette non oily and the teriyaki sauce not too sweet. Loved the fresh chickpea salad flavours! Quite filling meal for one.<br/ <br/ Minty chicken rice paper sushi everything was fine except the really long red pepper pieces which were a challenge to eat! Chicken was well cooked but this would be my least favourite from the dinner that day.<br/ <br/ Salmon sushi platter LOVED it! Can't fault it at all. A perfect dish. Period.<br/ <br/ Brown rice tea I have never had this before so was quite impressed by how subtle the rice flavour is. You know it tastes like that but doesn't overpower your taste buds. At $4 a pot it was a good option to choose instead of just having water.<br/ <br/ Damages were around $40 and we left full and satisfied. Definitely come back for more!
Best poké bowls ever!! And very generous portions of food for a good price. Fresh sushi thick pieces of sashimi as well.<br/ Great ambience for a little place, staff are generally friendly in the evenings however, went there during the day once and staff who I've never seen were working there and quite rude.<br/
4/5 : service<br/ 4/5 : price<br/ 4/5 : food<br/ <br/ I order the udon, pork gyoza and chicken onigiri. The udon are great . The gyoza is probably one of the best, i think they deep fried the gyoza bcs its really crispy which how i like it. The onigiri is disappointing, its my first time eating onigiri and didn't taste good. Overall, the place is at a pretty good spot, good food, affordable price.
