Contribute FeedbackThe King's Room offers a beautiful ambiance, complemented by attentive, friendly service. Diners have praised the fresh ingredients and well-cooked dishes, particularly enjoying the Sunday roast and dairy-free options. However, the kitchen seems to struggle with consistency, as some meals have fallen short with issues like overcooked fish and bland flavors. While the lunch menu offers quality, portions can feel small and prices are on the higher side. Despite the ongoing refurbishments, many guests remain optimistic about the future, hoping for improvements that could solidify the restaurant’s reputation in the Grantham area.
As a newcomer to the Grantham area, I was eager to find a classic Sunday roast without having to travel far. Our party of four, not knowing what to expect and never seeing a photo beforehand, was delighted to come across the charming setting of the appropriately named King's Room where we had made a reservation. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that the food at the Angel Royal is delightful! I especially enjoyed my parsnip and honey soup starter. The attentive staff strike the perfect balance between being friendly and efficient.
This place is back on the way up. They need to draw new customers out of town though and that is easier said than done. Menus are good and prices are reasonable but not the cheapest. Attempts to get more customers in are being experimented with and I wish them every success.
My friend and I had Sunday lunch it was absolutely amazing! The Lamb and Beef melted in your mouth and was cooked to perfection. My friend follows a dairy free diet, the chef made df yorkshire puddings for her which she said were beautiful. A lovely experience and a very very pleasant lunch in beautiful surroundings. The staff were very attentive and went that extra mile nothing was too much trouble. Thank you
The service and food at this restaurant are excellent, you will always be well taken care of! I highly recommend Jane and her team. Be sure to visit this historic venue.
The service at the restaurant was excellent, but unfortunately the food fell short. It seemed like there were some problems in the kitchen. We ordered fresh bread with balsamic and olive oil as a starter, but the bread was stale and plain white. There was so much oil in the dish that we couldn't even taste the balsamic. My fish was tough and overcooked, however, my husband's lamb shank was decent. The blueberry cheesecake he ordered was satisfactory, but my sticky toffee pudding was overly sweet and drowned in caramel sauce. We decided to stop after that. The staff member was amazing and ended up discounting everyone's bill because of the long wait we had for our meals. Overall, there were definitely issues in the kitchen. Our bill was discounted even more because of my fish dish. The King's Room itself is lovely, it's just a shame that the food doesn't live up to expectations. I would not recommend this restaurant.
