This restaurant is definitely one of the top places to dine in the Grantham area. The staff are amazing, the delivery service is excellent, and the food is exceptional! We have ordered from this restaurant multiple times, and today they even surprised us with complimentary extra food and a drink. It is clear that they value their customers and are consistently friendly and dependable. View all feedback.
What andyd179 doesn't like about Galaxy Fish:
I visited the Galaxy Fish Bar recently, and I couldn’t believe how good the food was that we had. I have been very down on Fish and Chips, as they just never taste as good as you hope they will. Well be assured, they do at Galaxy !! Martin and his team work tirelessly to ensure great food. Be assured I will be back in the very near future !! Keep up the good work guys...... First time orderd from here, delivery within 30 mins via uber eats little expensive using uber eats ,portions were huge, orderd doner meat chips said, chilli sauce, chips were beautiful salad fresh n crisp although missing tomatoe, consisted of lettuce, cucumber red white onion. Doner meat was cold, huge big thick chunky strips ,bone dry ,absolutely tasteless, looked very unappealing, un appetising, not how doner meat should look or taste, worst doner meat ever seen, having said that I wanted chicken but no chicken doner on menue which I found strange, disappointing, burgers on the other hand were beautiful, very filling, juicy, succulent served in nice bap definitely buy again, chilli sauce was exactly as stated extremely hot. Apart from doner meat rest was lovely,id definitely go there again but not have doner meat, portions of chips are very large I orderd a small enough to feed least 5 people, good value for money, doner meat needs working on., It lacked flavour n taste strip were far to chunky and thick, bone dry.
The food is superb would recommend it and a large car park as well
Apart from arriving on time nothing else positive to day. Dreadful.
Second visit recently. I understand this business re-opened some months ago after a lengthy closure due to a fire. On my first visit, they were out of fish. Strange for a fish bar and stranger still, as I note from another review, the owner(? suggests ‘sometimes it’s a good problem to have’. I have to admit, to run out of what is perceivably your main stock item doesn’t fit with any business model with which I am familiar. Compare a petrol station running out of petrol or a coffee shop with no coffee! On the call at the end of July I settled for just chips. The regular portion was considerable, indeed far too large for my appetite but I judge they fell below acceptable standard and were either overcooked or had had a second visit to the fryer. Not to my taste and even with salt and a liberal dousing of vinegar, added later, they were unceremoniously dispensed with. In my opinion a visual check by the staff should have confirmed they weren’t fit for sale. I felt the shop should have the benefit of the doubt (no one gets it right every time and a second visit was in order when I was nearby recently. This time, both cod (two sizes and haddock was advertised as on hand. I requested haddock, chips and bolstered with a serving of mushy peas, only to be disappointed again as the haddock wasn’t available. I reluctantly settled for cod, asking that the skin be removed pre cooking. The offer of a credit card receipt would have been appreciated. Whilst waiting for the fish to fry and with no further customers coming in, I enquired about the cooking medium and found the response ‘vegetable oil’, somewhat vague. My attempt to identify the potato variety was even less successful. This is basic stuff guys. I see that the business now shares space with a second concern and seems to have morphed into a take away cafe, with such diverse offerings as kebabs, milkshakes, waffles, cake, and sweets. Subsequently a well wrapped package was passed over, initially sans peas which I queried and these were added to the order with an apology. A short drive up the road and I pulled over to crack the parcel. The chips, again a substantial portion, were an improvement on my earlier visit, although I feel that to be damning with faint praise as they were greasy and flaccid and must have been standing for a considerable period since the temperature was not much above tepid. The fish had broken in two and was contained within a batter which was limp and also very greasy, so much so that the combined offering had seeped oil through greaseproof paper and all of the seven layers of wrapping paper in a very brief period. Worse still, a bite of the fish confirmed that it was undercooked and certainly below temperature. I leave the business to define the reason for this state of affairs. Sad to say I felt it safer to eat no more. Will I be giving this business another go? Although the timing of my visits may well have been unfortunate, regrettably, all I can say is ‘two tries, but no conversion’. Unquestionably, as far as I am concerned, there are quality/availability issues which should be addressed. The sign outside the shop may say ‘Galaxy Fish Bar’, but the traditionalist in me says no. Open six days, check web-site for hours. Takes credit cards. Addendum 17.6.21: Do not rely on web-site for opening hours. Looking at four different sources, all show differing opening/availability hours to each other!
Galaxy Fish Bar is definitely the best Chippy in Grantham. Having had their meals on normal occasions through to corporate events we would highly recommend giving them a try when you are around town!
