What Harvey Palmer doesn't like about The Anchor:
We stopped in for a drink after arriving on holiday. Initially, all of the staff were friendly. We brought our dog with us since the pub is supposedly dog-friendly, but the gentleman behind the bar made a rude comment about our dog barking. I was not happy with his attitude towards a paying customer. I would not recommend this pub if you have a dog that barks. I suggest going to the Ship Inn around the corner instead... Fab staff and food. Not sure why there are not more positive reviews about this place as it is a real find the menu was good and the quality of the food superb
Located in a pretty village, the Anchor Inn is just off the main square. They have no parking on site but we found a space about away. No problem in early December but in summer it might be more of a problem. We had dinner in the evening there, which was amazing. I recommend the baked Camembert, it was probably the best I’ve ever had. Everything was served on chopping boards, which I didn’t mind, but the waitress said she hated using them. Bit odd of her to mention that but the staff couldn’t be faulted. Even if the waitress wasn’t impressed with the carol singers. We were in a small room, but for the price we were pleasantly surprised. It felt modern with a lovely window seat you can perch on. The bathroom was nice, but the floor is decorated with lots of stones so it’s like walking on a pebbly beach. It’s sweet but got a bit annoying.Breakfast couldn’t be faulted. Poached eggs cooked to perfection. Would be nice if they had juice on the buffet. For us however, we sadly had a deal breaker which means we probably won’t stay again the bedrooms have seriously thin walls. We didn’t hear anyone being intimate, but the guests in the room next door had dogs which decided to bark like crazy at am. The owners of the dogs then decided to communicate by shouting, so it was then impossible to get to sleep again. Our room was also at the top of the stairs, so everyone who came upstairs had to come past and it was noisy. It’s a real shame, because if we had a good night sleep it would have been perfect.

Eat well. personal nice. the rooms are a bit tired of places with bad walls are paper thin. wifi terrible and not great for phone reception area. don't bet fantastic.
Although we live around miles from ugborough, this was our first visit to the anchor. we had three meals and they were all amazing. nice eating served nice and hot. tom could not do more to make our visit a pleasant one, like the one. other dame behind the bar. They have a big restaurant, but we ate in the bar as my daughter had her dog. beautiful log burner in front of a very comfortable sofa. there were a few locals in the bar that were all very friendly and there is a large parking space on the back of the pub. we will definitely visit again.
