What a brilliant cafe! Plenty tables, nice amount of room. I had a panini which was freshly made, quality ingredients and tasted lovely. Very nice coffee. Wife had an omelette which, again, was beautifully cooked. We had our dog with us which they welcomed. A lovely clean bright cafe with friendly welcoming staff. I’d highly recommend a visit when you’re in Totnes. View all feedback.
What Coastal09125067802 doesn't like about Hill House Cafe:
disappointing. The taste was overly sweet and lacked the rich, luxurious flavor of authentic Italian hot chocolate. I regretted not walking out after the initial rudeness from the manager. I would not recommend this place for anyone looking for a true Italian hot chocolate experience. View all feedback.

Popped in for coffee and cake, friendly, great service, mahoosive latte and divine cake.

I would not recommend visiting this restaurant. It is best to save your money and go elsewhere. The service was rude, particularly the man serving us. The atmosphere was uncomfortable. It is a shame because the coffee was okay. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with strange behavior. The server sarcastically asked us to hand over dirty cups without a tray, then slammed a chair which hit my dog. When I checked on my dog, he reassured me that the dog was fine and did not apologize. Other tables around us also noticed his rude behavior and commented on it. The server walked away dismissively, saying it was just a fuss over hitting the dog with a chair. A simple apology was all that was needed. I was shocked at how many people were talking about how horrible he was and saying they would write bad reviews.
Our experience at the restaurant was disappointing. The server made us feel like we were inconveniencing her, likely due to receiving bad news. She barely acknowledged us and made us feel as though we were being unreasonable for wanting to eat and drink in the cafe. It seemed like she would be better suited for a different job. The customer at the table next to us was also ignored and left before ordering. The food was comparable to a hurried meal I would make at home, costing us £24. We regret not checking reviews beforehand, as there are many other nice restaurants in the area. Overall, our experience was miserable.
