What RealityCheck2013 doesn't like about 1853 Restaurant And Bar:
Booked the venue on line which wa seasy and straight forward for a business meeting in the Resteraunt for 3 people. The venue is classy and historic with a nice relaxing feel . the service though was very slow. The food is good although pricey. £15 for a Prawn cocktail, although this had salmon, mussels and fish eggs so not the straight forward one . steaks are £30 , sea bass £25 no sides included at 35 each on avera... Food and staff excellent and recommended. BUT, while waiting to pay I saw the computer the staff were using. I have NEVER seen a keypad so dirty. I mentioned to the staff that they should not be using the computer in that state due to germs, but they did not seem to take much notice. So hotel management time to ensure that you have clean computers and not just hand gel!
I took my mum and two daughters to Tortworth Court for afternoon tea on December 8th to celebrate my mum's 90th birthday. I had hoped it would be a special treat, but we were disappointed with the experience. After being seated, we had to wait a long time for our order to be taken and for our food to be prepared. The tea that was served was not up to standard - there were no homemade cakes, only bite-sized party food similar to what you would find at a supermarket, and soggy microwave sausage rolls. The finger sandwiches were made with sliced Kingsmill bread, processed cheese, and processed turkey, and were not very tasty. We had to ask for a cup to go with the pot of tea that was brought to our table. We also had to use the same plates for our scones as we had used for the sandwiches. When I asked for butter instead of jam and cream, I was given a packet of sunflower spread. The staff seemed inexperienced and there was no acknowledgment or mention of my mum's special day. Overall, the experience was disappointing and not worth the £135 that we paid. It was not what I would have expected from Tortworth Court.
A friendly buzz to it on the friday night we ate there. Not so much choice for gluten and dairy free, but dishes could be altered to suit. Efficient staff. Nicely dim lighting meant we felt our post-spa-day limp hair would not be noticed!
Lovely room but very busy on our visit On securing a table we were disappointed that bar snacks were not available on Friday 5th Jan We were directed to ATRIUM bar where there was a long wait to be served
Went here on the evening of 3/4/2020Food was fantastic, I had the Broccoli and Stilton soup to start, it was very tasty. For main. I chose the beef. It was beautiful! My partner has a Scallops to start, these were seasoned well and nicely cooked, he then had the duck for his main and really enjoyed it. The restaurant is busy but it’s well managed. One rude waiter, who unfortunately we didn’t get his name. The rest of the staff are great though. They seem to work all hours under the sun as they’re there for the breakfast shift too. For the hours they seem to work, they’re doing a great job!
