My husband and I had a great meal here tonight. The seafood platter wasn't available because they ran out of halibut and cod so hubby had roast beef dinner and I had the park chop dinner. Both are served with a homemade roll. We ended the meal by sharing a bakeapple cheesecake. We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. The server was very kind and friendly. View all feedback.
What Yvette Schuppe doesn't like about Silver Sands Restaurant & Lounge:
The good things - the fish was fresh and the wait staff personable. Cakes for dessert tasted locally made. The not so good things - the chips were soggy, the coleslaw was store-bought, the vegetables were quite over-cooked, the atmosphere is a bit dark. The restaurant sits in a part of a larger building that has a game room and an open wooden-floored room, maybe used for celebratory occasions. View all feedback.
Friendly staff and good food here. The Atlantic fair is served up here with seafood and fish on the menu. There are other items for people that don't eat that. We enkoyed our time there and the prices were reasonable for what you get?
We were told that this place had the best selection in town. This sparked our interest, since my girlfriend is a vegetarian. We figured we'd give it a try.I've had many meals in rural Newfoundland restaurants. Generally, you can expect a bleak atmosphere and a limited menu. But, the quality, price point, and service makes the experience enjoyable. This was an exception. This is more of a dive than any other place I've been to. You're greeted by black flies and a dirty porch. The wait staff attempts to discreetly complain about the new customers only an hour before closing (it was 7pm, I should add). The menu is nothing close to what we expected, as there was only a couple of things on the menu without meat. Of course, there is even less selection once they tell you about all the things they've run out of.I decided on deep fried cod - a favourite of mine. It's a failsafe, assuming the fish is fresh. Of course, the waitress had no idea where it came from but "thinks it's not too old." I took a chance on it. Big mistake. The batter was burnt, and the fish was lacking all flavour. In fact, the only bit that had flavour tasted as if it had gone bad. I left most of it on my plate. After being informed of what food they had run out of, my girlfriend was left with only sandwich options. She accepted one, and added a side of fries. Her sandwich came long before my meal, they forgot about the fries entirely. My cold fish got significantly colder as we waited for cutlery and condiments. We got sick of waiting for someone to come out and check on us, so we went to the kitchen ourselves. I'm a beer drinker. I drink lots of beer. I ordered one of my favourites. It came in a glass, warm and miscoloured. If it was in fact the correct beer, it was watered down.Skip this place. Anywhere but here.

Great food at great prices with friendly and competent staff. I had a moose burger that cost me $5.75. I had recently paid $19.50 for a moose burger at a trendy restaurant. The burger was about a quarter the price and twice the size.
