Popped in on the way to play Turnberry, which is just down the road Nice breakfast , some more local produce would have been nice I.e haggis, potato cake etc would have made it more a “Scottish’ breakfast. But it was good Nice friendly, quick service would recommend and considerably much cheaper than eating at Turnberry View all feedback.
What 40forty doesn't like about Souter Johnnies:
Souter's is a nice place to visit if you're in the area. It's a great building- thatched roof and roomy yet cosy inside. The food was good as was the service. I'll definitely return. View all feedback.
Booked a table for a birthday dinner far in advance had asked for a good table, however we were sat at the bottom of the restaurant near the fire exit. The table next to us had children who they could not control, running around and nearly knocking our drinks over on numerous occasions. I realise this is not the fault of the restaurant but we actually had to move our table over when we arrived as we were far too close to them. Our waiter was unbelievably rude and did not utter more than two words to us during our dinner. No hello, no how are you doing just what you having? When our starter came he just put it down and walked away, I could not believe how bad the communication was. We finished our starter and again no communication, no how was your starter just took the plates away and that was it. Our drinks were near enough empty by this point and no offer of a refill. We continuously had to ask for drinks and when we did it was as if we were a problem. We asked for the bill off a different waiter (not on purpose she was just passing) who was nice and asked how our meal was etc. I did not complain to her as she had not served us during the meal, the man who did serve us came over and pulled the receipt from the card machine and walked off. No thank you, no nothing again. I did not tip when I usually do as the service during our meal was awful. The food was lovely, I have to say this as I was impressed by the food taste however the service was not good.I was so disappointed as we had heard such good things about Souter’s Inn. We had pre booked a taxi for 2 hours away and could not get one any sooner so we had to sit at the bar for this time and wait. Again, every time we needed a drink there was no offer by the bar staff.
Good food and service. Even better if you are a regular as they seemed to get plenty of chat and laughs and attention!Couldn't get my first choice of main and dessert, wee bit disappointing but it happens.Atmosphere busy but far too noisy some people like the busy feel but it wasn't relaxing for couples. EG wooden chairs (with no felt on feet) scraped back and forward on a wooden floor by diners arriving and leaving.
Went out as a mini family reunion, firstly staff are friendly, service is good, most of the food was good however the three of us that had the steak pie were very disappointed, far too dry when we told the man whilst paying the bill he said ‘well it’s Friday the pies are made on a Tuesday’ Er- ok then! I’d go back but not have the steak pie. Please don’t patronise your customers with shady excuses, it’s embarrassing.
Am so sorry to write this review but i have to be hoenst When we arrived staff couldn't of been any nicer cant fault them at all.me my husband and mum had a table pre booked.Orderd 2 soups of cauliflower soup totally tasteless just taste like a bowl of cream. No butter portion with the bread! Ok we can forget a butter portion ..the mains lol 12.95 for macaroni really???? My mother got the steak pie which looked like scotch pie. Filled with zero steak and 4 cubes of sausage The pie was so over heated it had dried out disgusting!my husband got sea bass 16,.95 for a tiny peace and 2 pieces of vegetables disgrace. Come on guy weve ate here a few times this is very disappointing. We had no salt or pepper on table had to ask twice for spoons for the soup. Your sweet menu looked appealing but after the first 2 courses we descided not to spend a penny more.your prices are ridiculous i can't justify paying 12.95 for a macaroni cheese .am sorry to say i wont ever return sort your prices out
Have eaten here before a few times and I would say it's not as good as before. The toast did not come until we asked for it, which was after they served the main breakfast. To me, they had forgotten to take the toast out to us. I find that strange as they took the butter out and 15 mins later the breakfast came, between which staff had walked past the table several times and the restaurant only had one or two other tables dining. It might just be me but If I was working there I would notice that the table had butter sitting there and no toast, whether I took the butter out or another staff member. Apart from that the black pudding had a very strange artificial taste to it. I would describe it as across between plastic and a cheap perfume. I felt a bit at odds to mention it in case I sounded crazy. But I asked the person I was dining with and she also noticed this strange taste and never ate hers. For the sake of a couple of £10-odd breakfasts I did not see fit to complain about a bit of toast and a foul tasting black pudding but I would not go back for breakfast.I would go back for the dinner or lunch menu if I was in the area.I would be interested If anyone else noticed this weird taste on the black pudding as have had breakfast here a couple of years ago and I do not recall that strange taste.
