Contribute FeedbackHayes Garden Centre in Symington offers a delightful café experience with a wide range of cakes and scrumptious bacon rolls. Despite somewhat high prices, the quality justifies the cost, as proved by the delicious food served quickly and with a smile. Customers can enjoy a large selection of tasty treats and generous portions, including the popular bacon roll and the hearty chicken and leek soup. While occasionally experiencing minor issues, such as damaged chairs or queue lines, the overall experience at Hayes Coffee Shop remains positive, making it a highly recommended place for a satisfying meal or a cozy afternoon tea.
My family and I often visit this restaurant with our 2-year-old granddaughter and elderly sister-in-law. We typically purchase 4-6 coffees per week, but are only awarded one stamp for our loyalty, which we find to be quite a rip off. The coffee and scones are good, and some of the staff members are pleasant, although not consistently so. However, we are disappointed by the policy that requires customers to stand in a queue to order before finding a seat, as this seems discriminatory towards mothers with babies, young children, and elderly individuals. Furthermore, customers are then expected to carry their items to an available table, which we believe is unfair in a society that values inclusion for all. The same lack of consideration is evident in the garden centre, where young children and elderly customers are not accommodated properly. The presence of numerous signs dictating what customers cannot do only adds to the frustration. The manager's behavior towards us when we visit with our granddaughter makes us feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. Despite the fact that we often purchase plants there, we have decided to take our business to Eden or Gemmells moving forward. It is extremely disappointing that Hayes could improve so much from its current state.
I was at Hayes garden centre today and had a pretty bad experience. They have all their Christmas stuff out and my daughter (she is only 3) accidentally broke a glass bauble which was hanging from one of their Christmas trees which I later found out was only £2.99 retail. I was then chased by a member of staff who demanded I pay for the broken bauble. I did end up paying for it but have come away feeling done over as surly this is a given in these places that accidents happen. if they do not have contingency for these wee accidents they should have fragile items out of reach or cordoned off. My daughter then felt like she had done something really bad and I felt sorry for her . Really disappointed and feel like the staff didn’t handle this very well at all. we are regular visitors to the centre for coffee/lunch And spend a fair amount, we told the girl this but she didn’t care extremely poor customer service! All this upset for a £2.99 bauble!!!
Please take the waitstaff service into consideration! It's frustrating to stand in a long line, only to receive a number and be told to take a seat. The staff seem disorganized, leaving your hot roll to become cold by the time they locate you. Given the high prices, it would be nice to see a more refined dining experience instead of feeling like you're in a cafeteria.
A few years ago, I had the most amazing scone at this garden center cafe and it immediately became my go-to spot for lunch in the area. They offer a fantastic variety of sandwiches, paninis, and deli plates. We opted for the smoked salmon deli plate, which was generously portioned with salmon, egg mayonnaise, fresh bread, butter, and a side salad. The cafe also has a wide array of delicious cakes, although we were too full to try one this time. We definitely plan on returning for afternoon tea on our next visit to the area!
Coffee, home baking, food all very good. No problem there. The “average” rating relates, purely, to the decision to stop the “coffee loyalty card”. This, for me, is a mistake. The “one stamp” to the card per visit was already less than, eg, Eden or Bella Luca these 2 coffee shops stamp the loyalty card for each hot drink purchased. But, for Hayes to remove this altogether (especially in these difficult times) seems a strange move! Hey ho!
