I ate at Solar da Bola on 2 occasions: lunch (the heavy meal of the day one day and on another day I visited with friends in the evening to try the famous (infamous? turu. At lunch during the week after new years some menu items were out of stock. I had the filhote fish with rice and salad (I requested the fish grilled, it came instead breaded, after havining waited 30 minutes for the entree to emerge from the kitchen I gave no thought to requesting a change and ate what was served . Turu is a mollusc related to clams and oysters. Its appearance is that of a long white worm that lives in the trunk of mangrove trees and it eats wood. Some people clean and eat the fresh turu. The turu dish available at the restaurant was a soup made from frozen turu. The broth of the soup was tasty, the turu itself is an acquired taste. The walls of the restaurant are decorated with handicrafts, including a model of a shrimp trap.
