This is a classic Maryland seafood restaurant. Prices are above average for way above average food. In contradistinction to other reviews, our service was outstanding.....prompt ordering, very courteous and rapid serving of food. Thanks to Amber Mallory our server! Crab cakes are 90% meat, and fresh. Ambience is very nice with water views. View all feedback.
What Vincent C doesn't like about Stoney's Seafood Solomons:
Stoney's The Striped Rock offers decent food but mediocre service. More specifically, the service was slow. I waited at the outdoor booth for some time before I was greeted and seated, and this was during a time when the restaurant was somewhat empty. However, I have mixed feelings for the food. For example, my shrimp scampi was overly greasy. In fact, the pasta essentially tasted like butter. On the plus side, thoug... View all feedback.
We decided to leave and explore the area, considering returning because we noticed a special for $12 for 1.5 lbs of snow crab legs. We came back later that evening and had a different waitress outside who was more attentive, although it was evident she was busy and not particularly friendly. As someone who works in the restaurant industry, I have certain standards. My 80-year-old grandmother was visiting from Ohio for my birthday and accidentally left her credit card. I tried calling multiple times on Monday, as their website and phone message indicated they were open. However, when I reached out to speak with a manager about her card, I was told they were closed on Mondays. I explained the situation, noting that my grandmother lived nine hours away and asked if her card was there and if I could retrieve it, but the answer was a firm no! Even though I have the same last name and a state driver’s license, they insisted she had to come in person to collect it. They wouldn’t even accept a photocopy of her ID as proof for me to retrieve it. As a result, we had to report the card as stolen in order to get a replacement.
Stoney's The Striped Rock serves up decent food, but the service leaves much to be desired. I experienced quite a wait at the outdoor booth before someone finally greeted me and showed me to my seat, which was surprising given that the restaurant wasn't very busy at the time. As for the food, my feelings are mixed. The shrimp scampi was overly greasy, and the pasta was drenched in butter. On the bright side, I did receive a generous portion of pasta along with a significant amount of shrimp. I was also pleasantly surprised by the quality of their potato salad, which was quite good.
I visited this charming little restaurant in Maryland with my family, and I can't imagine saying anything negative about places on Solomon's Island unless the servers were exceptionally rude. The reason for this is that the scenery is so breathtakingly beautiful that it's hard to feel upset about anything while you're there! Thankfully, Stoney's provided delicious food too. I ordered the Monte Cristo, and it was absolutely scrumptious – oozing with cheese just the way I love it, and every bite was delightful. The crab cake appetizer was equally impressive and is definitely a must-try! The service was good, and the view… oh, that view! We sat on the outdoor patio and enjoyed a magical sunset. Overall, this is a must-try spot for those visiting or lucky enough to live in this lovely area. I'll definitely be returning!
What is not to love about this place? They accommodated our group of 15 with a short notice reservation. The service was superb. Our waitress Cara took care of all of us on her own and was fantastic. We had the whole upstairs to ourselves. The view and sunset were amazing. And the food...wow. The baby crab cake dinner was more than enough food and so good. Also tried the rockfish bites app and loved them. Wish I had a chance to visit again this trip to try more on the menu!
The Stoney 's brand used to be one I enjoyed but my past few experiences have left me more disappointed than the rest. During this last visit, I paid $16 for the southern Maryland grilled cheese, which was advertised has a grilled cheese with ham and crab meat. The sandwich came out lukewarm, the cheese was not melted even remotely, the ham looked like a child size portion, and the crab was essentially a crabcake that was clearly left in the fryer for too long. For the price you get charged, The food is mediocre at best. I 'll be taking my hard-earned dollars elsewhere on the island on the future.
