Haus Striepen is a privately run restaurant with an extraordinary large menu. Individual preferences are welcome and will always be recognized. The restaurant is nicely located in Unterburg, submontane the old castle Schloss Burg, a historical tourist spot, and just a 30 minute walk to the highest steel railroad bridge in Germany Müngstener Brücke, built in 1897. Father Striepen is Chef, while his wife and their son are the friendly hosts looking after their guests. The food and drink quality was always pleasing, including some fresh snacks upfront and mostly some piece of orange cake after the meal with the coffee. The extended wine menu keeps various German and European wines ready for tasting. One of our highlights was Bergische Kaffeetafel, a local afternoon specialty, including waffles, rice pudding, warm sweet cherry sauce, sweet and brown bread, jam, cold cuts, lots of coffee and tea. We skipped dinner that day When in that region, we make sure to stop by at Haus Striepen.
