What Tina P doesn't like about The George:
Food indedable, we did complain but on deaf ears, no apology, no refund. Meat as tough as old boots and vegetables al dente to say the least, more just out of the field. Very Poor, would never eat here again. View all feedback.
On Saturday, January 11th, my friend and I visited this restaurant for a late lunch after a shopping spree in Solihull. We found a nice table in a corner that was able to accommodate us and all of our shopping bags. After looking at the menu on the table, we made our selections. I went to the bar to order our drinks and food. We both ordered egg mayonnaise sandwiches on brown bread, along with a pot of tea and a latte for myself. The drinks arrived quickly and the food was nicely presented with rocket salad, coleslaw, and piping hot chips that were delicious. This restaurant provided a nice, relaxing atmosphere for a late lunch. I would recommend stopping by after a day of shopping.
My husband and I had our first lunch at The George through a Groupon deal, £24 for a 3-course Sunday lunch for two. The restaurant was busy with a good atmosphere and we were seated right away. We were expecting a carvery, but the area was being refurbished so our lunch was plated instead. We both ordered prawn cocktail, which was served in a dish with too much mayonnaise that covered the few prawns. I ordered beef, requested medium-rare but it was served well-done. Despite sending it back, it came back the same. My husband had no issues with his gammon and the vegetables were ok. The dessert was acceptable. Overall, we were disappointed as we had heard good reviews and are unsure if we will return in the future, given the many other options for Sunday lunch in Solihull. Perhaps the restaurant's reputation precedes its reality.
We had a fantastic three-course Sunday lunch at the restaurant. While the decor was a bit outdated and worn, the dining area was clean and well-maintained. The food was delicious and the staff provided exceptional service, being attentive, polite, and friendly throughout our visit. We definitely plan on returning and would recommend this place to others. Some updated decor and a cleaner carpet could potentially attract more customers.

Very disappointed with our visit. We had a family meal here on Saturday night and we expected better. The food was variable with some of the party enjoying it and others not but the service and attentive to detail was consistently poor. It got embarrassing the amount of times that we had to call over one of the serving staff for little things. I always think poor attitude in servers relates to poor management of the restaurant and for us the poor rating is based on ‘death by 1000 cuts’. Examples of the issues; 1 of the party had steak done medium it came at most rare and had to be sent back. When the plate returned the onion rings had gone. 3 of the party had the curry off the menu that comes with mango chutney or doesn’t in our case. The servers were doing a great job of avoiding our eyes but we eventually got someone’s attention and pointed out that none had arrived. About 5 minutes later one portion arrived and we had to point out that 2 others also wanted it. The 2/3rd portions arrived after we’d finished. 1 of the party had fish and chips and asked for thin french fries as she doesn’t like fat chips. When the meal came it was with fat chips when questioned the server said she had been told they don’t do thinner fries which isn’t a particular problem but please tell us when we order as we can then decide what to have. 1 of the group asked for some brown sauce and it came but was never used because the bottle was warm/hot on the bottom like it had been on top of a hot plate or similar. not sure whether this is related but my wife who had a curry is not well this morning and her stomach is churning. To balance this, the pie of the day was well presented and tasted nice and one of the group enjoyed the curry I haven’t yet seen him today to check his stomach is ok though). Overall, the restaurant was sloppy. We had to prompt for a drink when we arrived, prompt to order etc. We saw others having to do the same. There was a group of 3 or 4 servers who congregated at the front desk chatting rather than serving. It’s unlikely to get a 2nd chance with us given the wealth of other options in Solihull.
