It is so rare that you find a lovely pub, fantastic food and drink and absolutely amazing staff! I’ve recently moved to Balsall Common and have now taken my father to this Gem of a pub twice. The lady behind the bar is ridiculously hospitable. Taking our drinks to our table, talking about the food and even coming to ask us if we would like more drinks. Sorry to report that this lunch was one of the worst ever. However, in case the staff wonder why we didn 't complain at the time, we were very tired and not feeling up to a confrontation so we just ate what we could and then left. I am extremely disappointed with the new owners of this restaurant. I had booked a Christmas party for December 16th, 2023, based on the amazing experience we had last year under the previous owner. The new owner had assured us that they would honor all bookings. However, to my surprise, they confirmed the party for the weekend of December 9th/10th and then suddenly cancelled it a few days later. Needless to say, I will not be returning to this restaurant again.
The new owners had reportedly promised to honor all previous bookings. I had a private party scheduled for December 16th, but the new owner cancelled it last minute based on someone else's recommendation. If you're planning to book a room or hold an event at this establishment, I recommend having a backup plan as the new owner does not seem reliable.
We had reserved a private party for our group, which includes a diverse and friendly crowd, with plans for two overnight stays and hired musicians. We confirmed everything three days ago, only to be notified today by the owners that our reservation has been cancelled with just four days notice. This left us out of pocket and our Christmas party plans in shambles. The reason provided was that some local residents did not agree with our views, and the pub did not want to be associated with us. It's important to check before booking to ensure your opinions align with the owners, whatever they may be. How disappointing!

A very pretty pub which looks like a gem from the outside. The food was average nachos, a brie and cranberry baguette which was more like cranberry with a touch of brie (whoever made this needs to consider the balance needed with these ingredients! and bruschetta which was unrecognisable as bruschetta... We genuinely thought it was prawn cocktail based on appearance. Poor communication from kitchen to waiting staff to customer when the nachos came we were told they were out of guacamole (listed on the menu as part of the meal . Not good enough but okay won't hurry back.
