Description

The Oak Room restaurant evokes a variety of sentiments among diners, from blissful celebrations to frustrating disappointments. While some patrons rave about their memorable anniversaries marked by attentive service and exquisite food, others report shocking reservation mix-ups, highlighting systemic issues. Many appreciate the exceptional quality and presentation of dishes, noting a fantastic fixed-price menu that showcases seasonal ingredients. However, the ambiance occasionally falls short, with dim lighting causing some inconvenience. Despite the inconsistency, the majority agree on the restaurant's potential, suggesting that a visit promises unique culinary adventures worth exploring.

Traveled with a large group. Half of the group complained about the cleanliness of the rooms. Very dusty required a good clean. Lovely hotel, but could do with a bit of a makeover. The staff were friendly and helpful, the breakfast was excellent. Service: 4

We didn’t stay over, as we live close by, which is why I haven’t rated the room. We went for one of their party nights ABBA Themed and it was brilliant. Food was good served by a busy, pleasant and organised team, we had a couple of dietary requirements which they dealt with no problem at all. The band were brilliant and everyone was up dancing straight away. This is such a great idea for any occasion birthday, family get together, just an excuse to go it. Takes all the hassle out of arranging going to a restaurant and then finding somewhere with music. This is our first time, but we will definitely be back. Highly recommend for a great evenings entertainment. Service: 5

We visited for an afternoon tea for my grandads birthday, my mum made the booking telling them about my dairy allergy and for no chocolate to be added due to my grandad not being able to eat it. When we arrived, there was no one to greet us, there was just a board with names and table numbers so we sat down. A server came over after 10 minutes to offer us tea or coffee, they were friendly enough but we did have to wait a while. When the food was brought over, it looked lovely plenty of sandwiches, sausage rolls, pork pies, cakes, and scones. There were two big pots of jam and clotted cream as well, with fruit on each tier. However, there were 2 chocolate items on the top tier and none of it was suitable for a dairy allergy. We spoke to the server and he apologised and went to check the list they were given about dietary requirements. He came back after another 10 minutes with another set of food and explained what was there. Much less appealing than the first, much less variety, and no where near as fresh looking. The bottom tier of savoury food had 2 mini vegan sausage rolls, and 2 mini mushroom rolls. They were bitesize and looked lost on the size of the plate. There was a single blueberry muffin on the middle tier, and then 3 cakes on the top tier a small square of carrot cake, a bakewell tart, and a finger slice of angel cake. The vegan sausage rolls were inedible the texture was so dry it was like eating cardboard, the rest of the cakes were all gluten free so very grainy and overall not enjoyable. I understand that as someone with a dairy allergy, it 's hard to find food that has no dairy and isnt gluten free, however, it 's not hard to make a couple of sandwiches or homemade cakes without dairy. It was deeply unsatisfying and quite disappointing. When the server came back over, we raised the issue and asked if that was normal for the dairy free afternoon tea. She went to speak to her manager and he came over around 15 minutes later to explain to us that my allergy was not listed for the afternoon tea. He then explained that there were another 3 customers with dietary requirements that were surprises and the information had not been passed to the restaurant. He was very apologetic and offered us a bottle of alcohol and a refund on the dairy free food (not yet been refunded as we had prepaid). The lack of communication between areas of the hotel is shocking and needs to be adressed. Service: 4

The Sunday Roast dinner was perfect. The beef was incredibly tender and the cauliflower cheese was delicious. Carole provided top-notch service.

We had an incredible dining experience for our first wedding anniversary at this restaurant. The service was outstanding with attentive staff, and the food was amazing.
