We stopped here on our journey and had a great lunch. The food was very good. Every drink was served in a big glass A&W mug. They take great pride in their meat being free of drugs and the burger I had was excellent. We also had poutein and it was something we had to try while in Canada. We had great service, the food was good and we were able to go on our way. View all feedback.
What Montana Auer doesn't like about A&W Restaurant:
The thing that makes this A&W different is the decor, High ceilings, lots of light with a touch of Swiss artistry gives you an alpine lodge feeling. A&W chain has value-priced meals that taste good. Nice as a treat once a month, but not daily fare. View all feedback.
We went here for a quick lunch enroute to Prince George. Service was friendly and our orders came in under 10 minutes. One of the A W that still has the chain merchandise which is great since you do not seem to see...anymore of those. The burgers we had were all good and the fries with a side of gravy was a surprise highlight gravy is so good!
I like the Smithers A&W. Not only because the food has always been really good, but more so because it represents something of a long-standing family tradition – albeit one with many gaps in between nowadays. Back when I was younger, the family and I...would routinely drive down to Vancouver (and later Chilliwack to visit more of the family. While en route, we’d make it a point to stop at this particular A&W, especially after the Smithers Smitty’s closed a number of years back. Having grown up in a small town that lacked fast food chains coming to places like A&W was always a treat. Stopping here, then, was one of the things I looked forward to on our yearly pilgrimage. However, as I said, there have been big gaps in this excursion as of late. In fact, the last time we stopped here (until this year was in 2009. It’s hard to believe it’s been almost ten years. So, when we were making our way to PG this year, I made it a point to stop ere for lunch. Since our last visit of almost a decade ago, this A&W has modernized (as most have . The revised space is bright, clean, spacious and the employees are kind and helpful. A bonus to visiting this location? It is one of the few A&W restaurants that sell merchandise, inclusive of the elusive A&W bear mascot (remember him? . In any event, we all ordered buddy burger combos. Who can resist that perfectly seasoned 1.6oz beef patty, fried onions and Teen sauce, especially when paired with a classic A&W root beer in a frosty mug? YUM! On top of that, we also appreciated how the fries were not over-seasoned at this location (as they tend to be at a lot of other A&W restaurants I’ve visited . We all left satisfied. It was nice to have everybody sitting around the table again – enjoying a decent meal – just like old times. FOOD: 4/5 SERVICE: 4/5 VALUE: 5/5 RECOMMENDATION: I think as far as fast food restaurants go, A&W is usually pretty good. The burgers are flavourful (though I wouldn’t go so far as to say they’re the “best” in Canada like the ads say ; the root beer is fantastic; the chubby chicken burgers are nice; and the root beer is an instant classic. These establishments are perfect for a quick bite on the road. Highly recommended!
Of the many A&Ws we stopped at, this is the one that has merchandise. Copper coloured travel mugs, hats, duffels, picnic blanket, lots to choose from. Service was good, we asked for no buns, and no to the lettuce wrap, but the burgers were served...lettuce wrapped. (Lettuce wraps make the burgers super wet, and all the sauces drip off making the burger really sloppy)
Their breakfast items are really good! I would recommend anyone to try them.However. when it comes to their Coffee......Ummm No. It's just not good. I tried adding different things to it, to change the taste up a bit, not matter what I did.. it didn't help.
The food at this place is great for fast food. Yes typical fast food but the service is amazing and the food is always good and hot. The place is always busy which may speak to the quality of the food. Also pretty clean for such a busy place. Well done Smithers!
