Nice restaurant with tapas and other food but quality could be better. Will recommend their croquettes, calamari and patatas bravas homemade but skip the eggplant

The title of this review is the culmination. Of a lousy evening. We went to this restaurant sight unseen as there was a small concert there by a local musician. I can't fault the entertainment, shame I didn't get to see the end... The service was abrupt, if I'm being generous, rude if I'm being honest. I'd made it plain when I reserved, that we were going to see the live music. When we arrived, we hovered, waiting to be attended, it was clear after a while that I had to approach the staff to claim my reservation. Then we were dumped at our table, two of us, face to face, one with their back to the entertainment and no way of changing that without sitting on the neighbouring table. To me, the tables were too close, even by pre-covid standards. A party of 3 arrived soon after us, were given nibbles, drinks orders taken, menu discussed and greeted jovially. We eventually had a couple of menus thrust onto our table. Still no drinks orders. That took a bit longer to happen. The arrival of the 2 drinks and bottle of water took a further 5 and 10 minutes, 2 times as the 3 drinks turned up in shifts. The menu... OK, I applaud the attempt to do something different, but anything that looked attractive at first glance proved to hide an off putting ingredient. I was tempted by the artichoke crisps which appeared twice in the menu including in a salad, with no mention of the other ingredients. But, at a price 4x that of a kilo of artichokes and portions no bigger than half a bag of Walkers that I saw being delivered to other tables, I didn't feel inclined to trying them. There really wasn't much to tempt us, so we ordered some bread to nibble while trying to decide. I discarded a couple of dishes on the grounds that I won't order restaurant food that I can easily cook myself at home, such as grilled butifarra (local sausage) and secreto ibérico, a choice cut of iberian pork. My teenaged child really didn't fancy anything, finally after much deliberation, we managed to plump for a tuna tataki and Andalucian style calamari starter for the teen. Our food arrived along with the entertainment that was billed to start at 9pm, it was now nearly 10. The tataki was very good, but the half dozen slivers of carrot and courgette that accompanied it left me embarrassed on their behalf. The calamari was nothing like anything I came across in 16 years living in Andalucía. The teen expected typical rings, not a plate of tentacles. I ended up eating those too. Again, it was not a generous portion. We finished quite quickly and I took up the offer of another beer whilst enjoying the music. My child chose a coulant, I'm told it was tasty, but the size was inversely proportioned to its price tag. I asked for a coffee, the waitress disappeared before I'd had a chance to say how I liked it. After the coulant had been enjoyed, I nipped out to the street to smoke, alongside several other diners. I returned to find my cortado coffee, not my favourite, getting cold. It was good though. The singer was taking a well earned break. Then we were very surprised when number of people started smoking at the tables and ashtrays were brought. Technically, we were in n outside courtyard, but with the roof awning across, there was little ventilation and the atmosphere became quite foggy with smoke, the teen was suffering and we decided it was time to go. We needn't have made that decision, we were told we had to go by the waitress. Not asked, TOLD. They had people waiting for our table. THE singer's second set hadn't started and the table was laid before we'd got our jackets on. That speed was not reflected as I waited to pay at the bar inside. The bill came to just under 58 euros. That included a 5% surcharge for the entertainment. Or in our case, half the entertainment. I'm happy to pay 30€ a head for a good meal, but it can't be described as such. Between the two of us, we had 2 standard bottles beers, 1 soft drink, a medium bottle of water, 2 portions of bread, a meagre starter, a small main, an undersized dessert and half a thimble of coffee. Basically a meal for one with a couple of extra drinks. I've eaten more getting some tapas with drinks and spent a lot less, not to mention receiving better treatment. The upset stomach I am currently suffering at 3am is the icing on the cake. 13 moons, unlucky for us.
