While some patrons praised the excellent service and high-quality ingredients, others expressed disappointment in the food's inconsistency, citing issues with overcooked dishes and lackluster flavors at a premium price. Despite mixed reviews, the establishment boasts a cozy ambience and a husband-and-wife team dedicated to creating memorable dining experiences. With an emphasis on local produce and an inviting menu, it remains a hidden gem worth exploring for those seeking a unique culinary adventure in the region.
I called in hopes of having a wonderful lunch experience. Unfortunately, the owner informed me that her husband, who was the renowned chef, had passed away last year. As a result, she was no longer serving meals to those who were not staying at the hotel.
We stayed for dinner bed and breakfast and enjoyed some of the finest cooking around! It 's the third time we 've visited, but our first overnight stay, and we brought friends along too. Isabel and Ken are the perfect hosts and long may they and the Waterdine continue to be one of the 'jewels of the Marches '!
As Ludlow locals we can say this is in our top 3 restaurants in the area and we are happy to drive the half an hour to get there. The service by Isobel is friendly and welcoming and the food by Ken outstanding; imaginative, clever taste combinations and different every time we go. Sweet little Welsh cottage, unspoilt, with a wonderful view over the Welsh mountains.
Our third visit and just as good as our previous visits. The dinners are delicious and its good to know much is home/locally grown. Excellent bread and its worth staying the night for the Breakfast the next morning.
This is a truly characterful restaurant on the Shropshire Welsh border in amazing hiking country. The building is very old and quirky, the welcome and food amazing and to top it all we were sitting in a conservatory overlooking snow capped hills watching birds including hawks and red kites glide by. Fresh fish including a John Dory starter and a Hake main course were available along with a very tender Roe deer in a Juniper berry and sloe gin sauce. Puddings were simple but delicious and included fresh pancakes with Cointrou and marmalade ice cream.
