Himachali Rasoi - Shimla

If you are visiting himachal for the first time you should really try this place... Amazing place to enjoy himachali taste of food with aroma of hills altogether.

After we reached Shimla something behind our standard lunch time, we were rugged. We wounded our way to this very recommended and very tiny place with all four tables for some good ugly authentic Himachali food. Our first order was Mandyali Dham Thali. Along with rice there were five Curries Rajma (Kidney Beans) in Yoghurt Curry (Mandra), Lentil cake in Spinat Gravy (Sepu Badi), sweet and acidic pumpkin (kaddu khatta), Yoghurt Curry (kadhi), black lenses (mah dal) and there was a sixth we did not know what it was because it was not mentioned. The food was as big as the crowd. We shared half of Thiali between us and our stomachs were completely tired, although our hearts wanted more. Our second order was called Sidu (pronounced sid-du), a Himachali specialty. It is steamed wheat beans with filling. Both sweet and hearty are present. We took the hearty, where the filling was made from khus khus poppy seeds) and divided lenses served with green Chutney and Ghee (clear butter). Yum yum yum! Not to mention that Sidu was nothing like anything we had eaten before. We finished our meal cups of steaming hot Masala Chai, although a variety of other types of teas were also available. The bill? Serious sum of 325 €

Great place. Amazing ambience. Small cozy sitting area 2 levels under mall. USP is genuine Himachali cuisine. Kangri court is a must try. Sidu is highly recommended. Kangri Tee is a must try!!
