Seaside Shimabara

Emergency Exit locked! We have stayed at this place for years, never worrying about the emergency exits! Until today, when we decided to take the emergency stairs from our 3rd floor room down to the ground floor! Ground : door locked ! Back to 2nd floor: door locked ! 3rd floor: open! Now we were back where we started! I’m case of a fire, we would be cornered or already burned to a crisp! Complaining to the reception desk triggered the incredible response that they wish to prevent unauthorized access to the hotel! So, they rather burn their guests?? This is by the way, a violation of legal rules!

We stayed here while visiting my wife’s relatives, great view of the bay. We had our own Hot tub on our balcony that matched our great view of the sunrise and islands on the bay. Breakfast buffet was delicious with a good mix of regional foods and western norms.

Went to the hotel during the winter of 2020. Did not actually stayed in the hotel but went for the famous onsen instead with the onsen ticket that allows you to visit three different onsens in three different towns. The onsen itself was superb. With a sea side view facing east you can watch the sun rise but unfortunately not the sun set. The panaromic view makes it well worth it and you can observe the busy port while relaxing. There's a special cold bath where you can enjoy the onsen that is naturally carbonated.

Best hotel in Shimabara! Directly located at Ariake Bay, rooms are facing the sea! In house hot spring batg(Onsen)
