This vegetarian restaurant located in the Tempelviertel is one of many in the area, and was the first one we visited in January 2020. The food was excellent and the portion sizes made us happy to consider getting takeaway. We tried the delicious Mock-Lamb dish and, on the strong recommendation of a staff member, the deep-fried lotus root. While the lotus root was tasty, the dough was quite heavy, so we would recommend it for sharing between at least four people. The restaurant was quite busy during our first visit, but despite that, the service was timely and the waiter was always friendly and patient. During our second visit on a Saturday, it was much quieter, but the same waiter maintained her warm smile. Even when we arrived close to closing time, she was still accommodating and patient with our limited Chinese. The decor is simple yet tasteful, with Buddhist themes and plants in the window that create a welcoming atmosphere. They also sell a variety of packaged mock meats and vegetarian products. A tip: look for this character to find vegetarian options. Overall, a positive experience updated with our previous review on 2020-06-14.
Located in the temple district, this vegetarian restaurant was the first one we tried in January 2020. We were impressed by the excellent food and generous portion sizes, perfect for takeout. Our favorite dishes were the Mock-Lamb court and the deep-fried lotus root, recommended by a friendly employee. The lotus root was flavorful, but the heavy dough made it more suitable for sharing among at least four people. Despite being busy during our initial visit, the service was prompt and our waiter greeted us with a warm, patient smile. On our second visit (on a Saturday), the restaurant was less crowded but the same waiter maintained her friendly demeanor. Even when we arrived close to closing time, she was accommodating and patient with our basic Chinese language skills. The restaurant has a simple yet tasteful decor with Buddhist themes and plants in the windows that create a welcoming ambiance. They also offer a selection of packaged mock meats and other vegetarian foods for purchase. Overall, a great spot for vegetarian cuisine in the area. Unfortunately, we had to leave China before trying every dish on the extensive menu at this Buddhist vegetarian restaurant. We visited three times and everything was delicious. The Fragrant 1000 Miles dish was particularly impressive, but all the food was great. They offer a variety of dishes ranging from salads to hotpots, and the fake meat options such as crispy fish were tasty. The restaurant also has a selection of sides and desserts. The mock meat dishes, like the Gongbao meat, were well-loved. The restaurant has a beautiful environment with lots of plants, though some may not consider them tasteful decorations. Traditional music plays in the background. However, it can get busy during weekend lunches and smoking is allowed at certain tables. If you visit after 1 o'clock or in the evening, it's quieter. The service is quick and friendly.
It is disappointing to leave China without trying every dish at this Buddhist vegetarian restaurant with an extensive menu. We visited three times and each time the food was delicious. The "1000 miles of fragrance" dish was especially impressive, but everything we tried was great. They offer a variety of dishes, from salads to hotpots, mock meats (including crispy fish) to sweet dishes, as well as a selection of sides and desserts. The mock meat dishes were excellent, such as the gongbao meat. The restaurant has a beautiful environment with many plants (although some may be artificial) and tasteful decorations. Traditional music plays softly in the background. It can get crowded on weekdays and smoking is allowed at banquet tables, but it is quieter in the afternoon or evening. The service is quick and friendly.
We are disappointed that we will have to leave China before trying every dish on the extensive menu at this Buddhist vegetarian restaurant. We have visited three times and have enjoyed every meal. The 1000 Miles of Fragrance dish is especially outstanding, but everything we have tried has been delicious. The menu includes a variety of dishes, from salads to hotpots, and mock meats such as crunchy fish and traditional dishes like Gongbao meat. The restaurant has a nice atmosphere with lots of plants, although some of them may not be real. Traditional music plays in the background, creating a peaceful environment. However, it can get busy during weekend lunch hours and smoking is allowed at some tables. For a more tranquil experience, we recommend visiting after 1pm or in the evenings. The service is quick and friendly.
