My wife and I enjoyed a fantastic meal at this restaurant on a Friday night in July 2018. We started with a burger and the apple-fennel salad to share. I had the rose wine, while the others in our party tried the cocktails (especially liked the gray dog). Our server was excellent, though I can't recall their name. She was from South Carolina and her partner was a cook there. The outdoor terrace had a beautiful view. View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Red Maple:
Ugh, bland, mediocre restaurant with no personality or flavor. Subtracting one star for slow service and lack of variety. Appetizers took a long time to arrive (clam chowder, lacking bread or rolls for munching) and were disappointing. The beef tenderloin seemed undercooked and flavorless, lacking seasoning or sauce. The blackened Jersey potatoes were huge but lacked flavor. The berry jam tasted like store-bought app... View all feedback.
We had a terrific meal here on a Friday night in July 2018. If you or oysters to start and then my wife and I shared a burger and the apple-fennel salad. I had the rose but the cocktails are terrific according to the others in our party (the greyhound). Our server was terrific but I can't recall her name. She was from South Carolina and her husband was a chef there. Outdoor patio with a nice view
We stopped by for a drink and were pleasantly surprised by the charming atmosphere of this place. Our bartender was outstanding!
Come. On. I really don 't like to leave bad reviews, but then again I don 't often see the need to leave good reviews. I mostly review to warn others. I think I should think more about this aspect of my personality. Am I altruistic? Or is it just easier for me to complain? Uncomfortable truths abound. I 'm sure it 's hard to keep a restaurant going midweek on such a small island. We salute you for your service, Vine Streer Cafe and Marie Eiffel! Anyway. The kitchen...clearly has issues. They can 't course things. Somehow they couldn 't get us a dish of olives before onslaughting us with every single thing we ordered. We ordered several things from several sections of the menu. Wine, as I mentioned, was good. Olives? Seemed out of a jar. Salad(s)? Because we tried two of them. Was there dressing? Was there cheese? Hard to tell. The arugula was fresh. So there 's that. Quality issues aside, it should be noted: Duck prosciutto does not belong on a salad. Flatbread? Tasted like something an airline would give you as a snack if your plane was delayed more than 3 hours. Fluke? Hell no. My boyfriend likened it to the worst entree we were served at the worst restaurant we ate at...in Havana. Yikes. Chicken would have been passable if they had bothered to season it. The space is lovely! The lighting is perfect! The staff was trying! We really liked our wine! Cross your fingers and hope this place improves. We wish it well hope to be able to update next year.
The Chequit, a beloved restaurant on Shelter Island, has recently been renovated and now, as one reviewer accurately put it, it seems to be trying to emulate the Hamptons vibe. After a somber event, we stopped by for a drink and a burger around 3pm, as Flying Goat was too crowded. However, we should have realized that something was off when we noticed a few hints: the place was completely empty, there were only young staff members on duty, and there were errors on the menu (like listing draft beers that they didn't actually have). Our server was friendly, but we got the feeling that she may have been gossiping about our table with her colleagues. The shot I ordered came in a half-empty glass, which was disappointing considering the circumstances. And to add insult to injury, they charged me $10 for it. The burger my husband ordered was bland and lacked seasoning. Overall, we found the atmosphere to be pretentious, the staff inexperienced, and the food unappetizing. It's no surprise that the restaurant was empty while others were busy.
The herb roasted chicken was fantastic! I give it five stars. The brownie sundae also deserves five stars. However, the pork chop was a bit plain, so I would only give it three stars.
