Came here for dinner in December 2018. It is a small space with a small table (can sit 2-3 people) and a counter by the window with 4-5 stools to sit at. Staff were friendly. We ordered the vegan Shepherd-less pie with fries and vegan onion gravy. The pie was quite tasty and was filled with vegetables. The pastry crust was good and tasted like a non-vegan pastry crust. The Shepherd-less pie is the only vegan pie opti... View all feedback.
I used to always order shepherd’s pie whenever I went out to eat, but now that I'm vegan, I opted for a shepherd-less pie. It was just as delicious and came out piping hot. The atmosphere was great with lots of international visitors in the restaurant and neighborhood. If you're in Shanghai and craving some Western comfort food, this is the place to go!
Being a British expat in China, stumbling upon this little piece of Britain felt like a miracle. The vegan bangers and mash were delicious and I immediately became a fan of this cozy spot. The owner, Jane, is incredibly friendly and speaks perfect English, which is a huge bonus for those of us who don't speak Chinese. It's a popular spot among expats, making it a great place to bring visiting friends or to introduce to my British pals living here. The names of the pies are clever and the new larger branch offers a variety of vegan options that are constantly expanding, which is fantastic. I've dined here numerous times during my 20 months in Shanghai and have enjoyed the cheese and onion pie, chips and curry sauce, minted mushy peas, pies, gravy, and mash – all delicious and satisfying. If you're craving a taste of Britain, this is the spot to visit. I recently tried the vegan breakfast at the original location and was pleasantly surprised. While I preferred the old tofu scramble to the JUST egg and the sausage patty to the OMNIPORK patty, the breakfast was still outstanding (despite the odd addition of broccoli on the plate). The fact that they offer HP sauce for the sausage is a big bonus.
Two lovely pies to choose from and a good selection of vegan sides. Would visit again.
As a narrower in china was a chance encounter with this small piece Britain a little wonder when I arrived here first. after the rehearsal of the vegan färger and maische I was attached to this tiny place. the wonderful owner jane is so friendly and speaks perfectly English, that is great for people like me who don't speak Chinese. this place is popular with the foreign mass and it is great to have a place to take friends who visit and introduce it to my British friends who live here. the cake names are also great punns. the new larger canteen branch has more vegan options that constantly expand and it is great that they offer these options. I have eaten here so often in the 20 months, I was in shanghai, before I went vegan I tried to get the cheese and beak cake, the chips and curry sauce (an old favorite from some chippies.) the plastered mushy bases, the cakes, the gravy, the maische, it is all very tasty and satisfying. if they were a little taste of Britain, that must be the place. not for a past in this, so was happy to see the vegan breakfast available, I had it before the canteen filiale. they have replaced the Tofu cubes with just a sausage patty with an OMNIPORK-Patty, in person I have the tofu old style patty but this is an amazing vegan breakfast (even if I find the broccoli out on an breakfast stand out from place) the fact that they also have HP sauce for the sausage is a big plus!
Service was fast and efficient. the very tasty Shepherd-less-Piee came hot over a hearty part of the sweet potato carrot-maic with vegan gravy, and the vegan sausage I got on the side was particularly delicious. the toffe apple apple apple apple apple apple apple apple was also cold and delicious. recommended
