Description

Tucked in Shamokin, this chef-driven bistro blends historic charm and tavern warmth with inventive dishes, standout cocktails, and inviting outdoor seating. Creative hits — salmon, Heritage burger, Polish flatbread, cheesecake — showcase a talented kitchen, but reviews note uneven execution: cold or undercooked plates, order errors, and spotty service. Vegetarian choices were reduced after a menu change, disappointing some regulars. Still, the clean, lively atmosphere, friendly ownership presence at times, art-filled dining room, and reasonable prices make it worth a visit—mind the metered parking.

My husband ordered the heritage burger for $14, and he absolutely loved it. The burger is a delightful combination of brisket and chuck, topped with onion straws and garlic aioli, among other ingredients, creating a fantastic blend of flavors. Plus, it comes with more of those incredible duck fat fries—definitely a win-win! I tried the Polish Flatbread, which I’ve never seen at any other restaurant. Although the combination might seem unusual, the flavors come together beautifully. The flatbread features smoked kielbasa, mozzarella, pork belly, pepperoncini peppers, and garlic aioli on a vibrant tomato sauce. When it first arrived, I thought, "Is this all?" But once I took a bite, I truly appreciated the harmonious blend of flavors. Chef Erik, who is from the city, has a remarkable talent for creatively combining unique ingredients to create outstanding dishes. We only had water to drink, but the cocktails looked tempting. Hats off to the mixologist, the chef, and the owner for creating such an exceptional dining experience. They even have outdoor seating that I’d love to try now that the weather is getting cooler. This restaurant definitely gets two thumbs up from me. I’m already looking for excuses to visit the area again so I can return to this gem. For the record, this was our first time in that city, and we tried to eat at several other places but were unable to due to various closures (temporary or permanent) or parking issues. So we expanded our search on Yelp and found this spot. It turned out to be one of the best "where should we eat?" happy accidents we've ever had!

We chose this restaurant on a whim since it was conveniently located near an event we were attending, and it turned out to be absolutely fantastic. Both the food and service were exceptional—I'd gladly travel quite a distance for another experience like this! Our server, Amelia, was wonderful and incredibly patient with the kids on the patio. As the kids put it, the food was simply amazing, and I couldn't agree more. Overall, I would rate the food, service, and atmosphere all a perfect 5 out of 5.

After some time, our server returned to inform us that she had forgotten to place our food order in their system, despite thinking it was on its way. When our meals finally arrived, they looked great but unfortunately fell short in terms of taste. I ordered the fish and chips; while the fish had a nice flaky crust, it was undercooked inside. I found the chips disappointing as well—considering the reviews, I expected better, but they turned out to be just frozen fries from a big box store. My wife had a similarly disappointing experience with her fried chicken. She discovered a hair in the first piece, so she set it aside and tried another. The look on her face said it all—she didn't enjoy it at all. When I asked her how it was, she said it had no flavor. I tasted a piece myself and can confirm that the only flavor it had was that of the undercooked Bisquick batter used for the chicken. On a positive note, my wife really enjoyed the green beans, and we did receive a 10% discount due to the mix-up with our order.
