Portobello 2 - SESTRI LEVANTE

Went here for dinner as my son fancied a burger. Staff were still eating their dinner as we were a bit early but we were welcomed in. From outset it did look like a snack bar but the staff were very friendly and the food was good. The burgers were big and tasty and we loved the fries. it’s also right by the promenade so you get a nice view of the sea whilst eating. Was also very good value for money. My son got sauce on his new T-shirt and the waitress saw what had happened and kindly came over with some stain remover to spray on it. Definitely would recommend this restaurant for families.

We were recommended this pizza and burger joint by the staff at Portobello, a smart restaurant on the beach so we expected great things. The staff were really helpful and very sweet and spoke good english which helped but the meal unfortunately didn't live up to expectations for one of us. I had the viziata pizza which was a good size, fresh and tasty, well cooked and really nice and I recommend it. Unfortunately the gluten free version came up small and dry and tasteless and was swiftly returned. The chef came to the table and explained there was little to be done as the gluten free base came ready prepared and he didn't want to contaminate it by adding normal sauce etc. We told him it needed more sauce and cheese to make it edible and he very willingly made another. But forgot to put the peppers on it. So better but still not ideal. If you don't want your food as it comes, best not eat here but otherwise, a good pizza for me; the beer was cold and the chips were hot. And the burgers at the next table looked great. Overall Good effort but.must try harder. 2 pizza, chips, water and a beer €32. They didn't charge for the chips but slapped 2 cover charges on the bill at €2 each. We didn't get so much as a piece of bread so I'm not sure what that's for.
