Four of us booked in here for an evening meal, knowing that there was not a regular menu to choose from, and that you simply advise what you don't like and they... read more Four of us booked in here for an evening meal, knowing that there was not a regular menu to choose from, and that you simply advise what you don't like and they bring you an agreed number of courses. We selected to have four savoury courses, a cheese board and a sweet course. We asked for a glass of wine each to balance the savoury courses. Everything was exceptionally good. After an amuse bouche we were delivered of our first plates slices of lightly cooked tuna with a vinaigrette sauce. Stunning. Second was cod with a creamy buttery sauce (I'm not doing these beautifully crafted and balanced dishes any justice at all with my descriptions! . The third dish was the absolute highlight of the evening a buttery slice of croque monsieur with generous julienne strips of truffle. Finally came chicken breast with a langoustine and potato. The cheese board featured five regional cheeses with accompaniments such as honey, quince jelly or preserved pear. Dessert was a delicious cream and compote combination with some delicious nibbles including a fig madeleine and wild strawberry marshmallow. Having free rein to create and concoct like this must be a chef's delight but the chef here knows *exactly* what they are doing and every dish is both surprising and perfect. The service was also excellent, friendly and attentive.
