UE is such a wonderful and friendship host. She offers a variety of homemade dishes and condiments that are completely natural and organic such as vegan cream cheese and enzyme-made ? strawberry jam. She also introduces guests to a variety of local restaurants serving completely organic and whole foods even organic makgeoli, or rice wine! . There is even a vegan bakery right about two-minutes of a walk from the guesthouse! You get a true sense of local color during your stay here.
UE Seunghee's Sleeping Strawberry Women's Guesthouse is a home away from home for vegetarian and vegan women travelling in Korea. It is in the back area of popular Hongdae which is the best of both worlds quiet with easy access to great nightlife and youth culture. You can cook and eat mostly locally sourced veggie meals, as well as learn about women's lives and travels in Korea.
The Sleeping Strawberry is the perfect place for an overnight stay! The location is fantastic (just around the corner from a vegan bakery called The Bread Blue) and conveniently close (walking distance) to the airport line for those traveling to and from Gimpo/ICN. Yu-e, the host, is welcoming and greeted me upon arrival to show me to my bunk and the homemade bread she had baked for breakfast the next day. The guest house also provides maps and recommendations for vegan and vegetarian food in the area. This women-only vegan guest house offers a stress-free environment where guests can enjoy the company of other women who share a common interest in vegan and vegetarian food.
We attended a Korean cooking class hosted by the owner of Sleeping Strawberry and were impressed by her professionalism, kindness, and assistance. The dishes we prepared were all healthy and vegan, and we ended up making more than we anticipated. We were also given all the recipes to recreate the dishes at home. Following the class, she took us to a nearby market where we found a variety of vegan sweets, fruits, and vegetables at great prices. I highly recommend this experience!
Located just 2 minutes away from Bread Blue vegan bakery and 5 minutes away from Sanchon, this cozy restaurant is nestled between Sinchon and Hongdae subway stations. I always feel right at home when I stay here. The owner goes above and beyond to introduce me to vegan-friendly events and local markets in Seoul.
