great restaurant (a little expensive, however) where you can get typical local dishes and national cuisine. beautiful outdoor location and accurate furnishings of the small restaurant room. the wine list is remarkable, the accurate and kind service. at dinner it is best to book especially in the most intense months of the tourist season. A family run place (son ran the place and mother served), It is a charminh and cozy place where the owner seems to take a special interest in giving his guests a good experience and taste of the region. The food was excellent, the atmosphere was warm and friendly and it had a personal touch as the owner took the time and trouble to explain the wines and the food. Definitely a quality place.
The hotel Val is a beautiful place with a lovely restaurant. I had the salmon plate with grilled zucchini and grilled potatoes and enjoyed it very much! For desert I had the pear ice cream with cranberry jam and cheese slices. I didn’t know if I would like it but it turned out be excellent. Who knew cheese would be nice with ice cream?? But it was lovely with the cranberry jam.
Sort of folksy and ambitious at the same time, with a modern alpine motif. They offer simple and exquisite food, but with a degree of sophistication that’s praiseworthy. Simply put, good ingredients used judiciously. The wine selection is also admirable and focused primarily on local producers. Top marks for the helpful and polite staff. This place is tucked away in the middle of nowhere, but if you’re anywhere around Val Gardena, a visit here is highly recommended.
