During my last regular trip with my wife has booked a table at Il Silene. Was 25 min drive from our hotel in Montalcino but it was worth to visit. At the beginning my wife was scared about from the empty restaurant at the dinner time. The waiter was very kind and explained us the reson, day before was crowded place, in our day empty. The restaurant is located in silent village, in the hills of Tuscany. The right place of take a rest and enjoy Tuscany via stomach, in chilled atmosphere, only focus on food. To Everyone who reading this review i recommend to go there and enjoy. Unforgettable experince.
The restaurant is located in a charming little village and has a very pleasant interior. The food though was pretty poor. I am afraid it was one of the worst michelin star tasting menus we have ever had. Pretty much all the dishes tasted like in an average restaurant in Tuscany. They were all unmemorable, even the pigeon which was supposed to be the specialty. For example, the veal tartare was just veal salt pepper olive oil and the flavour was nothing special. Some would call it simplicity, I call it laziness. Another weird one was two ravioli dishes in a tasting menu. They looked and taster very similarly. Why on earthy would you have two the same dishes in one tasting menu? Sorry, but that is really unimaginative. The service was really good, but their explanation on the food could be more interesting. If the chef decides to serve raw meat with salt as a dish, I'd like to hear why. Similarly, I'd like to understand why there are two essentially the same dished in a tasting menu. Overall, I'd not recommend at all.
The location where we had our lunch is located in a cosy open-air area located within a marvelous garden. The owner-chef is usual to guide the guests in a visit, with explanations, of the garden. The food is delicious and, personally, I was really happy of the La gallina ha fatto l 'uovo in un cesto di foglie e fiori (The chicken laid the egg in a basket of leaves and flowers).
