Visited on a Friday afternoon and enjoyed a couple of pints of cask ales. Thoroughly enjoyed the cask. It was noticeable that the service during the first round of drinks was luck warm. However, much friendlier there after View all feedback.
What JFergo doesn't like about Guest House:
Here with a friend for a few drinks, part of a catch up day. And though we both spend lots of time in Southport, both our first time here. It's a lovely old building, listed I believe, and quite historic. It's a big place, with a number of seating areas, with nearly all it's original features retained. It was a Thursday evening, and though busy, not crowded. We found a quiet corner, and spent a pleasant eventing tryi... View all feedback.
Excellent venue for lunch, tucked off Lord Street and the main thrash of noise and traffic. The pub is famed for its real ales, 8-9 hand-pumps, lunch menu is very good and the food very nice indeed and reasonable. Wood-panelled rooms, old fashioned with history and listed in the National Good Beer Guide inventory for CAMRA. Friendly service, cash or card payment. Ample seating inside, plus back yard outside and out the front on the pavement at tables and chairs. Only downside, not the pub's fault is meter parking on street everywhere around this vicinity. Highly recommended.
Great pub. Several real ales and the food was good and tasty. Staff friendly and helpful. Off Lord street so easily found but not overcrowded
I have been living in Southport for many years, but I only recently stumbled upon this amazing pub. It has a traditional old-style atmosphere with a great selection of ales and excellent freshly made food that is served piping hot. The staff is friendly and welcoming, making it feel like a home away from home. The prices are very reasonable, and I highly recommend this place.
Lovely old pub, unspoilt interior. Lots of character and good ales. Hadn’t realised there was outside space at the back too.
We often call in here when in Southport or did, never again! We went in about 7:30 pm last Thursday. Saw there was a pub quiz and decided to enter along with another couple we met, after checking with locals that this was ok. Some tables in the main room had notices saying 'reserved for quiz teams ' so we avoided these assuming they were for regular teams, correctly, and sat at a table with no reserved sign. A member of staff came round handing out quiz sheets. We asked for one but were ignored. The landlady then came in and said we had to move into another room, even though the room was half empty. When we pointed out that we had been there for 2 hours she became extremely rude, said 'what do you not understand about 'move ' '. When asked why she said 'just do it or leave ' . My husband and I are 70 and 68 respectively, not troublemakers in any way. Her attitude was disgusting. A regular sat at the next table who we had been chatting to said 'not again! She is not known for her tact ', but this was not just tactless, this was downright rude! We would have happily moved if there was a good reason to do so and if we had been asked politely. Good manners costs nothing!
