Le Pretexte is much better at authentic French food than the impression given by its interior, which is quite modern and a little cafeteria like in styling. Other restaurants in Sedan go for the dark wood bistro look, but this one is clean and light...with modern styling. The menu however was pure French authentic and extremely well cooked, we thoroughly enjoyed it from start to end
Me and my two friends did not have a good experience in this restaurant, the icing on the cake being the molded strawberry on my dessert. Service was not really friendly or welcoming. People in the kitchen, preparing our food, didn’t bother putting their hair...up (mid-back length hair just dangling down). My order (entrecôte) came without ANY vegetables, just a big piece of meat and fries. But so far, we didn’t really have a big problem. It started when we wanted to order our dessert. I was NOT allowed to order a tea AND my dessert. I had to order my dessert separately, and had to order my tea later. When our desserts came, my mi-cuit was decorated with a strawberry on the side that LITERALLY was molded. I left it on the side and ate the rest (being a nice customer). When I later told the waitress about the molded strawberry, I only got a sheepish “désolé”. No refund, nothing. It was not the language, because I speak French too. My friends didn’t particularly love their desserts either: the crème brûlée’s had curdled and it overall was way too sweet. We would not recommend this place
My first evenings in Sedan I tried one marockan and one vietnames restaurang. Both very good. The last evening I wanted some french food and was advised to go to Le pretext, It lived up to high expectations of french roots, really good
My husband and I ate here both nights we stayed in Sedan - and we never eat at the same place twice while traveling. The food was delicious and prices reasonable. My husband said he had one of the best steaks he has ever ordered. The goat cheese appetizer was also excellent. Service was wonderful - even with a slight language barrier (our French is horrible!). If we ever end up in Sedan again we would definitely be visiting!
The most popular restaurant for the locals.Good standard N.French cuisine served with Abigail smile. The best Angus steaks, duck, mussels etc. Great desserts and wine list. 10 minutes from the fort. Book if you can - very popular with the locals. Ask for the mussells as a starter without frites - great mussells.Good wine list.
