2024 Eats; Seattle #3, seafood #8, fish chips #1: originally heard about this place from that old Buzzfeed? is it worth it show. Ivar 's Fish Bar is a fast casual, walkup spot to get (mostly? fish and chips whereas Ivar 's Salmon House (next door is a proper sit-down restaurant. I biked here and ordered the salmon (4 pieces chips $13,69 to go. The people working there are nice, and you can get extra sauce and vinegar to go. The portion and the fish itself were quite good. The fries were unexpectedly good (they don 't look like much to write home about , and everything tasted great with tartar sauce. Four stars because I think the fish could be a little more moist/juicy, but I 'm mostly splitting hairs here. I 'd happily return to try their cod fish and chips and would definitely order the salmon and chips again. Service: Takeaway Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $1–10 Food: 4 Recommended dishes: Fish 'N Chips
Got the 5 piece Cajun Fish Chipsthe fish itself does not really measure up to Spud’s Fish and Chips. It’s definitely fried less well it just doesn’t have the same breading on the outside. Even the inside doesn’t taste half as good it’s a little bit pully. There was supposed to be Cajun breading on the outside but I pretty much didn’t notice any difference at all there was no extra seasoning or any extra flavor that i could tasteStill it wasn’t bad. Fried fish is going to taste pretty good unless you completely screw it up and this place certainly didn’t. The portion of fish was quite good as well as 5 decently sized fish were enough to be fillingthe tartar sauce was average nothing too special. it slightly improved the fish taste but didn’t add to it the samei will say the fries were really good. the fish came in on top of a massive portion of fries and while there was no real seasoning there these fries were pretty fantastic in terms of being perfectly soft on the inside. I really enjoyed them with the saucesoverall: good portions and fries, but the dish was quite mid. 6.5/10
Having lived in Australia, I've always had low expectations for fish chips in North America. However, this place surprised me with its delicious clam chowder. While the bread that came with the clam chowder wasn't anything special, the chowder itself was so thick and creamy that I would definitely want to have it again when I'm in Seattle. Additionally, the staff here were very friendly and did a great job explaining the food, even for someone like me who was new to Seattle.
