Nice coffee and brunch place with a large outside area, excellent coffees. Quiet out of season, but can get quite full during the busy summer months. I would definitely recommend trying their brunch on the weekend. But be warned: Can get very busy! View all feedback.
What Bradley Ellis doesn't like about Gassner Cafe:
Despite a table for 5 being available in the garden the waiter told us he would check inside, he disappeared for a few minutes and then came out, but totally blanked us walking past and back out to the garden, we then asked a waitress, she did virtually the same thing. Very rude and cannot believe we were ignored twice. Lovely location so was a shame. We went else where. View all feedback.
Attersee is not over optioned with dining choices and this Klimt obviously enjoys it. Our party of three was seated in a corner table inside while all exterior places were occupied. Menus are only in German but what seemed to be a manager quickly solved...this by translating the menu. While the soup arrived within 2 minutes we had to wait over 45 minutes for main courses. When asked why, the manager explained “everything is cooked to order. we have a small kitchen and when there are many customers it may take longer. It is our philosophy and we will not change it” So after 5 minutes more the food arrived. The burger was not “medium” but over cooked to well done. Bun was dry and disintegrated. Cordon Blue was over fried, dark brown (looks like the oil wasn’t changed in a while) and tasted average at best. Side dish were basic boiled potatoes. For all the attitude, high talk and big words this meal was a disappointment. The seat on our corner seat was worn and torn to the point of unpleasant and service in whole is mediocre at best. On next visit here we will avoid

We went to the cafe before visiting the museum. There was a fantastic range of cakes and they were delicious. They were light and managed to be creamy without being too sweet. These were definitely the best cakes we have eaten in Austria this week.

This is a very good venue for coffee and cake and also for lunch when visiting the Gustav Klimt Zentrum or just this end of Attersee. There are inside tables, an outside covered area, and a pavilion at a lower level surrounded by the lakeside park. Most charming. And what is more the coffee and cakes are good too. We returned for lunch and enjoyed the excellent iced teas, some pan fried lake fish with herbed risotto, and a spaghetti with small prawns, tomato, peppers and paprika. The staff were very busy, yet were friendly and helpful. I would certainly return here.
