Our meal started with a sampling of 3 of Southern Accent's feature items. Then we started with an appetizer of blackened chicken livers and corn bread - both excellent. From the sampling, I went with the jambalaya. Like everything else we tried, it had a touch of spice that wasn't overwhelming all the other tastes of the food. It was filled with Andouille sausage and was big enough that the other person that tried it couldn't finish it.My wife had the cracker catfish and had nothing but raves about it. Grits were served with this dish and they were prepared in such a way that they were unrecognizable to the way that grits are usually prepared. Finally, our fourth person enjoyed the voodoo pasta and it was quite a plateful. The beer selection is good. Mixed drinks feature a few southern favorites like hurricanes (actually a New Orleans drink, I think) and bourbon sours. Our waitress was a southern charmer though I believe she's from Toronto. So, go and have a good time.
Enjoy a little bit of New Orleans in the heart of Scarborough. This fast food restaurant is not much to look at but the Cajun-Creole menu is pretty authentic, including the blackened shrimp po' boys. It will take 10-15 minutes to fill your order most days but the wait is definitely worth it.
Scarborough has many good take out options but, most are either ethnic or fast food. Southern Accent brings a different approach to take out. And one that is not easily found in the city. The voodoo pasta and the jambalaya are our go to orders and do not disappoint. Good homemade root beer as well.
The Cajun cuisine at this restaurant is fantastic and reasonably priced! I tried the jambalaya, hush puppies, blackened chicken, and voodoo pasta, and all of them were amazing. I would give this place a perfect 5/5 rating!
