**A Tale of Two Experiences at Black Walnut**

Black Walnut has recently emerged as a polarizing destination in the culinary landscape. While some diners celebrate its charming ambiance, exceptional service, and inventive cuisine, others have reported frustrating experiences characterized by inexperienced staff, delayed service, and underwhelming dishes. Patrons rave about standout items like crab cakes, pork chop, and creative twists on classic favorites, yet a few menu items have drawn criticism for lacking flavor or being overly sweet. As the restaurant continues to develop its identity, it appears poised for greatness, leaving hopeful diners intrigued about its potential for improvement and future visits.

I had the pleasure of dining at this restaurant in Saugatuck, MI, and it was a fantastic experience. The food was outstanding, and the service was exceptional. We even had the opportunity to meet the owner and chef, who shared some excellent recommendations with us. The asparagus cream was incredible, and both the pork and beef tenderloin were absolutely delicious. The ambiance of the restaurant was also wonderful. Everything about this place was truly remarkable!

The crab cakes were exceptional, and the drinks were delightful! Our waitress was wonderful, and we really enjoyed chatting with her. The chef was friendly and made us feel welcome. It’s a fantastic spot. The only letdown was the scallops; they were a bit too sweet for my taste and didn't have the flavor I was expecting. However, my fiancée had the white fish with Brussels sprouts, which was outstanding! Overall, it's a great place, and I can only see it getting better and better.

Unbelievable! We are quite spoiled by the food scene in Milwaukee, but we were thoroughly impressed by this place. The ambiance was wonderful, the food was exceptional, and the service was outstanding. (Love you, Mick!) Usually, when we ask a server for menu recommendations, we get a tepid response like, "Oh, everything is great." However, Mick provided us with genuine suggestions that truly enhanced our dining experience. The bread with mango chutney was delicious, and both the asparagus and mushroom soups were top-notch. The duck dishes were fantastic as well. The cold smoked watermelon, which was recommended, was incredible, and the crab cakes might just be the best I've ever had. I only wish we could come here more often!

My husband and I came here to celebrate our first anniversary. From the beginning to the end, our experience was wonderful. Our server was knowledgeable and attentive. I ordered the blueberry Mojito on his recommendation that was delicious. We started by sharing the Caesar salad and the pig bell, both were wonderful. For our entrees I ordered the berkshire pork chop while my husband ordered the 30-day dry manhattan steak. The various flavors they incorporated into the dishes were so fresh and went perfectly together. No detail was overlooked. The next time we're in town, we'll definitely be back.

I almost hesitate to write this review as I'm afraid it will be difficult to then get in at this restaurant. However, that wouldn't be fair to this renewed Black Walnut. (It is NOT to be confused with the one that was there last summer with the same name which was not good at all. I can only say that last night was one of the best dinners I have had ever anywhere, even Europe. There was not one misstep in any of our meals and were some fabulous twists on old favorites, such as the chef's take on the old iceberg wedge salad and mushroom bisque... simply wonderful.
