It is situated near Bolpur division in the Visva Bharati University Campus, Santiniketan at 59 kms from the city of Bardhaman. The nearest bus stand and railway station is that of Bolpur located at the distance of 3. 3 km and 5. 3 km respectively. Chatim Tala means a place under Chhatim tree, which was used for meditation purposes and for promoting education by the well known Tagore family. This place was established in the year 1863 by Maharishi Debendranath Tagore, who was the father of renowned poet Rabindranath Tagore. Under this tree, Tagore used to meditate and is said to have acquired inner peace. Later on, in the year 1901, Rabindranath Tagore used this very place for outdoor study to educate some students and started his institution to promote art and culture by the name 'Bharmacharya Ashram ', which later became the Visva Bharati University. Chatim Tala is still used to provide education in open air as Rabindranath Tagore used to a century ago. It is a perfect setting for study amidst the natural as well as peaceful surroundings. There is also a meditation centre or prayer hall here known as 'Upasana Griha ', where people can meditate in order to attain inner peace. Various festivals are also celebrated here such as Basanta Utsav, Pous Utsav, Naba Barsa, Rabindra Paksha, and many more. The students who graduate from this university get honored with a branch of Saptaparni tree that is situated in Chatim tala. Visitors can ideally spend an hour or two amidst the peaceful surroundings of this place. Visitors can visit this place during the spring season as many flowers and trees surround this place, which looks beautiful during that season. This heritage place is open on all days of the week and for 24 hours a day. Although, the public entry is restricted by the institution in order to protect the structure and maintain the natural environment. You can surely see the place from some distance at a gate or on several special occasions.

The famous place where Kabiguru Rabindranath used to pen his famous literature. surrounded by beautiful lush garden. the chatim tree still exists today. u gonna like the tranquil and serene surrounding. u will definitely love this place. must visit when u r in Bolpur.
It's a well known place of Shantiniketan. Famous for Gurukul Ashram style learning system of Patha Bhawan students. The serenity and ambience is awesome and the area is fully covered by greenery. Very age old trees are still standing here which makes everyone very nostalgic and Bohemian.
