We popped in at the end of a tour. Sat at the bar and had Pisco sour and Cebiche. Great fun. Only open at lunch and no booking. Ceviche is cut thicker than I'm used to. Try the Tiratidos as well they are cut thinner. View all feedback.
Great food and good location in an area with many other restaurants and coffee shops. Couldn’t get a reservation but were able to get a table without waiting.
As always, every time I go to Peru this place is a must! Even with the appearance of absolutely fabulous new and exciting restaurants, this place makes me feel I am at home. There is a reason why Peru is consistently among the very top of culinary destinations in the world! Always buzzing and a little loud, the place is fun and busy no matter what day of the week you go. The menu is a mix of Peruvian classics with splashes of new elements and “fusiones”. Drinks are always delicious. Service is quite good. This time I was lucky to try some of the dessert items with Chirimoya, a glorious and delicious fruit. One improvement point is the parking situation: very few spaces available and no valet parking. They don’t take reservations but that has always been the case).
Our Uber recommended La Mar as a good seafood restaurant. After she dropped us off at the restaurant we noticed immediately that this was going to be a great experience. It was crowded at 3pm when we got there but the atmosphere was pleasant. The hostess was nice and professional and the waiters, mostly men, were also very helpful and gracious. The food was excellent. We choose the crab and prawn patties and the shrimp cocktail for appetizer. For the main course I ordered whole Cabrilla fried fish and my husband had fish skewers. The prices were reasonable. I would definitely go back!
My first trip to Peru was over 20 years ago. I went to the original Astrid and Gaston and loved it. Since then I have tried many of Koch Gaston's other concepts. His restaurants are amazing, I even applied for a job in my teenagers. La mar has always been one of my favorites a must in every trip. I have a number of his books and my 6 years old and I regularly cook his dishes. On this trip to Peru it was very special that we could get to know the man he himself. You did my daughter and my day. She loved the restaurant and met you. A great thank you to you and Pepe you have done so much for Peruvian cooking here and abroad! You have so many cooks and together from Peru food on the map
