Stoped for the fixed 3 course menu plus an additional coffee. It was great value for €11 per head. The service was spot on, both ladies working there were polite and helpful with out small amount of the French language View all feedback.
My wife and I recently visited this restaurant whilst on holiday. We first called in for morning coffee and were really made to feel welcome, so we returned the following evening for a meal. We arrived on our bicycles from a nearby camp site. Again, we were made very welcome and we enjoyed a really delicious meal. The atmosphere was great and certainly better than my French. The staff were most efficient and helped us through our pathetic attempts to order. By the end I am sure that my French had improved.During the meal the skies darkened and clouds rolled in producing a scene which I had only thought could have been produced by CGI experts for a scene from Harry Potter. Moving us swiftly inside their restaurant we finished our meal just as the heavens opened and those dramatic skies produced torrential rain. We paid the bill and went to get our bikes to return to our campsite about 2 miles away. The proprietor saw this an insisted that her husband take us back in their car. They looked after our bikes which we picked the following morning. Through this review can we once again thank them for their kindness. This aside I can thoroughly recommend Le Relais de la Gourgue for a great menu, great food and a great atmosphere. We are sure to revisit if staying anywhere near Sanquinet in the future.

We have been visiting Sanguinet since my parents moved out 14 years ago and spent many evenings here, getting to know the owners well. Approx 8 yrs ago my parents came back to England and the owners sold up the restaurant. We were pleased to hear that they had bought the restaurant/hotel back. It was like old times when we visited, the atmosphere, the food, simple but fantastic, looking forward to visiting again before our return home. A must if you are in the area.
Very cute restaurant just set back from the road in Saintguinet. Lovely atmosphere with waitresses/waiters very encouraging when giving a bit of French a go, instead of just reverting to English immediately. Amazing food, we had the cod-espagnol, which was gorgeously presented and tasty, without being too expensive. Would highly recommend if you're in the area.
Writing in connection with the comments/reference ‘Le Relais’ posted 30/05/15.The name of the restaurant to which they referred is actually called ‘Le Relais de la Gourgue,’ in the same village but at 116, avenue de la Cote d'Argent, 40460 Sanguinet, France. The Relais de la Gourgue is situated in the centre of the village, on the main road (traffic in both directions), next to the local post office and NOT by the lake (10 minutes away by foot) cf ‘… because the setting beside the lake is beautiful.’ Living in Sanguinet and a regular client of the Relais de la Gourgue, there is clearly confusion with the restaurant name. It cannot, position wise, be the same restaurant and feel that it would be judicious to make amends to avoid any misunderstanding occasioning unjustifiable remark and damaging the good reputation that the Relais de la Gourgue maintains (the owners are not only welcoming but are also friendly)
