What Eileen Chapman doesn't like about Smiley's Cafe:
I mentioned to the staff that charging extra for dairy-free milk is discriminatory. The staff member argued that all places do this. I pointed out that this is not accurate, as most coffee shops do not charge extra for dairy alternatives. Veganism and dairy allergies are legally protected traits, and attempting to profit from them is both unethical and discriminatory. It does not cost an additional 40p to make a drin... My sister and I came in and ordered our food, and it was delicious! I will definitely be back again as I enjoyed it very much.
Love this cafe. Plenty to choose from on the menu sandwiches, baguettes, baked potatoes, pasta, rice etc. We love the baguettes which are made to order and packed with good quality, fresh ingredients. And the bacon rolls are delicious and excellent value at just £2 each. (We're also partial to their scones which are so delicious, they're hard to resist! A local delivery service is available for orders over £12 which could be useful if you work in the area and fancy a treat for lunch. Highly recommended.
A friend and I had business in Bearwood, and spotted Smiley 's Cafe whilst walking along one of the busy shopping parades. With respect to the coffee bar opposite, Smiley 's looked more cosy than hip, and such proved the case. The cappuccinos we ordered were generous in size and full-flavoured, supplied with brown sugar (not always an option, we 've found). However, the BLTs raised the bar even higher: freshly prepared, served in a warm roll with plenty of salad (we got the impression customers can request for individual ingredients to be added or left out, such as the jalapenos used in the Mexican version). The staff are very friendly, the dining area spotless and the menu wide-ranging enough for plenty of sampling. As well as baquettes, Smiley 's offers sandwiches, pasta and rice dishes, Italian paninis, jacket potatoes, cakes and a salad bar. It also boasts a full 5 hygiene rating on the front door. Well worth a visit!

I pointed out that this is not accurate, as most coffee shops do not charge extra for dairy alternatives. Veganism and dairy allergies are legally protected traits, and attempting to profit from them is both unethical and discriminatory. It does not cost an additional 40p to make a drink with soy or almond milk. Your establishment is essentially charging more for those who require dairy-free options.
After being disappointed by the high prices at a cafe in Lightwood Park, we decided to walk down and try Smiley's instead. We were pleasantly surprised by their delicious and affordable sausage sandwich, which was half the price of the one we had just seen. We would definitely recommend it.
