I've been intending to write this review since Tuesday, when I had the privilege of experiencing the 14-course tasting menu (Omakase Experience) curated by Chef Akido. I needed some time to fully digest the experience. Let me start with a straightforward point: Akido is not for everyone. It’s not the traditional sushi-filled feast that we typically associate with Japanese cuisine here in South Africa. Instead, it prioritizes quality over quantity. And the quality of the sushi is, without a doubt, the best I've tasted in South Africa—and quite possibly the best I’ve ever had. I’ve been lucky enough to travel to Japan and enjoy some exceptional yet simple dishes that honor the ingredients and the overall dining experience. Akido not only meets that standard; it takes it to the next level. Knowing that a culinary gem like this exists in South Africa truly brings me joy. It’s rare for a meal—especially one with fourteen courses—to inspire such motivation to work harder in life just to experience it again. The traditional Japanese methods and Chef Akido's deeply personal approach to the Omakase experience enhance every moment. I won't delve into the reasons behind his philosophy; he articulates it far better than I could. There’s a lot of praise in this review, and it’s entirely deserved. To Chef Akido and his team, arigato gozaimasu! P.S. I might be a bit biased, as I learned that Chef Akido is a gamer, but I’ll definitely be back in a few weeks when the menu changes with new seasonal ingredients! P.P.S. I stopped taking photos once we reached the Nigiri, so I could savor each bite! Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: R 500+ Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Absolutely loved it! The food was outstanding. I've never tasted Mochi this delicious, and the Fried Rice is a personal favorite—it's the best I've had since Mauritius. I also highly recommend the Eel Nigiri! Service: Dine in Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
