Cavalier Oceanfront - San Simeon

Location is a 4, restaurant is a 3, room is a 1......given a east facing room with a view of up-close-and-personal evergreens from the slider and balcony. Oddball room...one of three in a utility shed building over the garages and storage garages....room was dirty, noisy from the activity below and has seen it's better days in terms of worn furnishings that smelled like summer camp when I was a kid. Avoid, avoid, avoid

This is a sad, sad day for my wife and me. We 've decided that this is the last time we 'll be staying at the Cavalier. We started coming here at least once a year in 1991. We came for family reunions, romantic getaways, birthdays, and just to relax, go wine tasting and enjoy the stunning scenery. My daughter grew up playing on the beach and swimming in the pool with her grandmother watching. I proposed to my wife on the bluff. So truly, a sad day and a hard decision. But, the hard truth is that the property has become a shadow of its former self. The carpet in the rooms is visibly worn. The wall paper is split and separated from the wall. There 's a red crayon mark on the bathroom wall. Our door is worn to the point that the paint has peeled off and there 's a gap between the door and the door jam that looks a lot like the door has been kicked in. The plumbing trim is worn and covered with mineral deposits. The bed linens are thin and worn out. The paint on the stair railings is peeling. I could go on. It 's really as if the management has just stopped caring and it 's really sad because it used to be such a wonderful place to stay. I have to also say that the desk staff is borderline rude and if you ask them for something you might find yourself calling them again to remind them. Despite the condition of the property the prices have continually gone up for little to no service (since COVID they 've stopped providing daily maid service) and progressively diminished amenities. We used to be greeted warmly by name and were provided free champagne in our room when we checked in. We were members of the Prestige Club which I can only assume doesn 't exist anymore. So, goodbye old friend. We 're sad to see what has happened to you.

Very old, smelly, worn out, and run down. A real disappointment. The place looked like it had not been renovated since the mid-1950s, and it smelt like it. Also, we were charged an additional 150.00 for the cozy service , which was an old blanket and a cheap bottle of wine. I specifically stated online, when I booked, that I did not want the cozy service, but I was told by the front desk clerk that I had to take it. When I called the front desk to have our room cleaned, I was told, Oh, we are sorry, but we must have forgotten to tell you that we only clean the rooms every other day. The grounds were also run down, but the prices were the highest in the area. A real disappointment. I will never go here again.

Renovations on the rooms. Outdated, dirty, hazardous issues in rooms. Stained carpet, mold in bathroom, stained outdated chairs etc

We have been coming here for a few years. We love the quiet spot ocean view rooms with patio rocking chairs. Awesome listening to ocean all night. Be sure get an ocean view room! Staff are always friendly. The grounds near the beach aren't green but we're in a drought. Grass up near the property is green. Room for improvement: Get rid of the keyed mini bar provide a little fridge microwave. Need screens on the sliding glass doors. Interior paint needed. Place hardwood/ laminate floors in pet friendly rooms! Easier to clean prevents allergy issues. Chuck the chess pieces, add some more gathering spots, maybe with shade. We love Cavalier, do a little renovation please.
