Mario the restaurant manager is charming, funny and characterful, and very willing to help and suggest a menu for you. The food is honest and unpretentious, from mixed salads, home prepared local soups, steaks and locally caught fresh fish, prawns and langoustine. The building is...old fashioned and homely, the whole atmosphere makes for a comfortable and enjoyable dining experience. View all feedback.
What Elena Roig doesn't like about Restaurante El Charcón:
the restaurant seemed to have a cozy atmosphere, but finally it was something untidy. at the time there were only some customers, but nevertheless the service was clumsy and not very friendly. they only had a red wine option available. especially compared to the trips there are several better options in san sebastian. Disappoint. we were the only table we could start with, the chef took our order with much confusion. we were not told calamari, so we ordered the fresh fish. (we have the only other table that later came ordered calamari and got...es! then a salad plate arrived. waited old for our beginnings. another table came in and the chef came out to take her order. in the meantime we waited for our main courses that came to a time one, it was so slow that some of us began to eat long before all were served. they even tried to give us a main course from one other table. a bottle of wine was served even though we wanted a glass. the cook should focus on the kitchen and get the food out at the right time. eating was not bad, but we wouldn't come back. la tasca beside was better for eating and service.
Cooking was very easy. are large, probably to compensate for the quality. it is affordable, although they tried to overload us.
Confusion about the starters that were good the main course never arrived. we paid for what we had and went

Small, busy, the low prices are reflected in the quality of the food and service. Popular with the locals.
