San Miniato is another walled hill-top town in mid Tuscany. This cafe is well situated in the centre of town, with a great view over the valley from its enclosed terrace. Nice stop for a light inexpensive lunch. Casual and friendly.
We were visiting the small town of San Miniato, (a really lovely town you must go) from the nearby Hilton resort in Selvatelle. It was a Sunday and most businesses were closed. The two most popular restaurants were fully booked. We found this small hole in the wall resto near the main intersection of the town. It had a gorgeous view of the steep Tuscan landscape. The waitress/owner gave us a small menu and we chose various kinds of pasta for lunch. I had the bucatini with a ragu sauce and it was absolutely delicious. After walking up and down the hills of the town, it was just what I wanted. It went down well with a local red.
Our driver knew that we wanted to see some out of the way villages so he took us to San Miniato. He knew the chef at Caffe Marlene E Roberto and introduced us. We had a wonderful introduction to truffles and tasted the most amazing pastries. Chef gave me some tips on my own croissant making. It is a great place with a beautiful view in a lovely town.
