We dined at this restaurant recently. The food was excellent and the staff were very friendly and kind. My son was having a rough day and was very tired, causing a bit of a mess. The staff went above and beyond by sending a robot to deliver a cup of water to my son. He was so impressed and immediately became fascinated by the robot. It was a really nice touch. What User doesn't like about Yayoi:
The food is still delicious, but there are not as many side dishes as there used to be. Coupled with a change in their pricing policy (they used to offer free refills), this restaurant has become too expensive for what they are offering. View all feedback.

I recently had one of the best tonkatsu dishes at Yayoi in a long time. The broth was rich in flavor and the pork was delicious. The salmon dish I tried was also fresh and flavorful. If I find myself in San Mateo again, I will definitely consider dining at Yayoi.

I really like the Palolato a few years ago! Have her chicken nanban my fav)today portion is big, but chickens fried too much Nanban sauce also not enough
4/2022-Food is amazing but prices have gone up including tips are now expected. 2/2020-They really exceeded my expectations! They're really authentic including the taste. The samples of tea were really appreciated and we even up ordering the hojicha roasted green tea) which came with a free order of matcha warabi mochi $5 value lined time) which both were very delicious! We also ordered the tonkatsu set $20) and was excellent! Really appreciated all the little details like the metal rack the tonkatsu rested to maintain crispiness. The rice and red seasoning was very good. All this is confirmed from a native Japanese person. Highly recommended and we'll be back to try additional meals. PS. There's a no tipping policy just like in Japan! ?????
