Papa Johns - San Mateo

The restaurant delivered my order to the incorrect address and refused to provide a refund. When I contacted the corporate office, I was told that since they use DoorDash for delivery, I would need to contact DoorDash for a refund. This lack of customer service is unacceptable and I advise against ordering from Papa John's until they address this issue.

We ordered a large The Works pizza. What happened to the pizza sauce? It's too sweet, yuck. This is not the pizza sauce I am used to from Papa John's. Pizza sauce should not be sweet and sour sauce. Even the BBQ chicken wings were overly sweet, we had to rinse away the BBQ sauce to eat the wings. When we called the Papa John's on 43rd, the person who answered didn't give us the time of day to make up for our previously favorite Papa John's pizza. It's sad, this is an update. After 2 years, we decided to give Papa John's another try. We couldn't justify paying $32.99 for a large specialty vegetarian pizza from the other pizza place down the street, so we took advantage of Papa John's $14 any large specialty pizza offer. We were pleasantly surprised by how good the pizza tasted and the generous amount of toppings. We especially enjoyed the whole roasted cloves of garlic on our specialty vegetarian pizza. I give it 4 stars because the Philly cheese steak pizza had only a few pieces of steak, it could have used more fillings, but the crust was good. This Papa John's has definitely improved. I hope they continue to make the pizza the same way, and the person who served us was respectful and polite, which is important.

When I went to pay for my pizza, I accidentally killed a small insect on the counter - not a roach, but a small crawling insect. I spent $35 on a large carry-out epic stuffed crust Philly cheesesteak pizza. The pizza was decent, but not exceptional. I was disappointed by the lack of meat toppings - there was only a tiny piece of meat on each slice. It felt like I had paid $35 for a cheese pizza. The stuffed crust was better than Round Table's, but still not as good as Pizza Hut's. I don't plan on returning to this restaurant. I'm not sure if other locations are any better, but I won't be trying them out in the future. Instead, I'll make the drive to Pizza Hut in South San Francisco, where I always get a satisfactory pie.

The staff is excellent and the pizza always tastes delicious. The wings are also tasty, especially with the Buffalo sauce.

I went to the restaurant and enjoyed a thin crust pizza with lots of cheese. The service was excellent and I did not opt for delivery, but instead dined in.
