Expensive But Good. All of the takeout food I have purchased here has been good, Not cheap, but better food than most. They dont use MSG. Nice atmosphere if you dine in. View all feedback.
China Wokery is located in a strip mall off W. San Marcos Blvd a few stop lights from route CA-78. There are a ton of restaurants in the area and the signage for the restaurant isn’t that noticeable. If you see Buffalo Wild Wings you are in the right place. Despite not being well seen from the parking area the inside is very cushy, with a large amount of well-lighted seating. The dining room has both booths and tables allowing for intimate to large gatherings. If you were a fan of the now closed Wang’s in Northpark you will feel at home with China Wokery. I was there on a Thursday night and the host allowed me to choose where I wanted to sit, but I can imagine what the place would look like on a weekend. The waiter was prompt getting our drink order and delivering it. China Wokery has a full drink menu with soft drinks, tea coffee, wine and beer. Their jasmine tea is fantastic. I ordered the Broccoli with Garlic Sauce and asked to add tofu it but the waiter pointed out that I could have the Tofu with Eggplant; it’s not unusual to come across Asian restaurants in San Diego that will not make substitutions or additions. I did ask for an order of Buddah’s Feast to take home with me, no mushrooms--I have an allergy, that request wasn’t a problem. The servings are very generous, this place might have the best steamed rice in SoCal. That might sound silly but it was so moist and fluffy that I dumped all of it on my plate to bed my broccoli with and quickly requested more. I made a bit of a pig of myself because I wanted to finish off my plate and rice without leaving a grain or drop of sauce. It was really good; all of it. The cost of our dinner was $60; it included three entrees, two beers, a pot of tea, and the tip, totally reasonable for the quality. Everything at the restaurant was great but when I tried to reheat my take home Buddah’s Feast there was hardly any sauce to add to my dehydrated rice, and I was sad to see mushrooms. Despite this error I will be going to China Wokery in the future. I loved the ambience. My favorite dish is Sauteed Broccoli with Garlic Sauce and theirs is delicious.
You knows, I ate here and had the duck. I luv me sum dark meat. Mhmmm. The service was fast an nice! And the whole bs about it being not 'child friendly ' my kids Marvin jr. and Marcus has manners. These spoiled and rotten north county kids with their expensive shoes (which they just gonna outgrow anyways) are rude and crazy. They should be out of the adults. I loved this place even though they only fry the ducks. I bet I could ask next time I go .. And experience a rotten child free meal.
Not sure about these other reviews regarding the food but I have never had a bad thing here. Every time without fail I order something with substitutions. They do it right and perfectly everytime. Everyone is super nice there. Yeah, their English isnt great but when you're hoping for authentic cuisine, is that really a problem? Only drawback for me is the egg rolls tend to be a bit greasy for me but they are delicious. Try the veggie mushu. Soooo gooood! Add bean sprouts.
We have been traveling over 40 miles for 20 years, from Temecula, CA to San Marcos to dine the China Wokery. The most consistent, excellent Chinese food we have ever experienced. Excellent food, service, and surroundings. Moderate prices...Great...
