Best brisket I have ever had! The baby back ribs were too dry and tough however. The chopped beef was great- not just scraps like many places. It 's a cool place off of the beaten path but a little pricey. The sauce is too 'runny ' for my taste but the meat didn 't need any sauce for taste. View all feedback.
Smokey brisket goodness! Lunch was a sliced brisket sandwich, beans, cream corn with hatch chokes, and a local Pilsner. The brisket was tender, smokey, and juicy. The bark was noticeable, something I appreciate. It made for a nice texture contrast with the meat. After tasting the brisket on its own, I added sauce and pickles. Perfect contrast with meat's richness. The beans and corn were great. Smoked, the other cheesy. Next time I'm in San Marcos, I'm returning to Kent Black's.
Homeward bound from San Antonio and wanted to return to Salt Lick or Lockhart. This was an excellent find along our route instead. Friendly staff, great atmosphere and smoky BBQ! We had the brisket, beef ribs and baby back pork ribs...all delicious, moist and tasty. Thumbs up on the smoked cabbage with bacon, Mac and cheese. We will definitely come back for authentic BBQ and no lines!!

Incredible! I was craving some amazing barbecue and Black’s barbecue hit the spot! The barbecue and sides were delicious! Loved the ribs (their beef ribs- mouthwatering), turkey, pulled pork. Grilled cabbage, corn, and Mac and cheese — yummmm! Everyone really friendly. Looking forward to going back! Thank you staff! Your restaurant made our day!
Wow! Now this is BBQ. This was the best bbq we had on our trip to central TX. We tried the brisket, turkey, spare ribs and burnt ends, along with the Mac cheese, potato salad, mashed potatoes, and peach cobbler. Across the board good stuff. The turkey was perfect, juicy, smokey goodness. The Mac cheese was very cheesy, which is a great thing. The cobbler would have been even better with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, but was still great by itself. I wish we had a place like this close to home, but we’ll come back if we’re in the area again. Worth a stop every time.
