In a time where "fusion" is the rage, this simple restaurant, in beautiful surroundings, took us on a culinary trip to the heart of Mexico. Everything from Enchiladas Potosinas to Chiles En Nogada with its delicious walnut sauce took us on a delicious adventure. The owner, Javier, and his wife have created a gem.We could eat there every day and be pleased and excited. With only two days left in San Luis we are fortunate to have the opportunity to eat there again (maybe twice). If you go there look for the Trip Advisor window sticker we gave them to celebrate their excellence.
This place has managed to stay beautiful and traditional for over 20 years. I discovered it during my trips to San Luis Potosi as a tour director about 15 years ago. The restaurant specializes in traditional dishes from the Mexican state of Puebla. The decor is an important component to this place, but the main thing is the food. You can try the Mexican caviar called "escamoles" which are ant eggs among "moles" and other delicacies not to mention cold Margaritas, soft drinks, beer and tequilas - Quaint colonial house in the heart of downtown near the church of San Francisco and its park. Even though the food specialties are not from the state of San Luis Potosi they do offer local dishes, but it is still very much worth the visit, for Puebla has some of the best food traditions in the country of Mexico. They open at 1:30 p.m. daily for lunch until after dinner.
